Google Will Soon Warn You If Your Login Credentials Have Been Compromised

Google has added various new functions to its Chrome to protect users while they browse the Internet. One of the highlights is that when you log in to some websites, Chrome will notify users if their credentials have been stolen.

Google has worked on this feature for some time and the first step was to introduce it as an extension earlier this year. After that, the feature is embedded to Google Account in October.

For desktop Chrome, the company also adds real-time protection against phishing attacks. What it does is that when you go to a website that may steal your data, Chrome will try to warn you about that. If you are about to enter your password to Google Account on some suspicious sites, you will receive a warning, even if you do not turn on the sync feature.

Another tweak is the new Chrome interface to show if you are about to have your passwords saved on a device that not only you have access to. What it will notify you is the names of the people connected with the account. The new interface will also make it easier for users to switch among different accounts.

These features are not something new as several password managers have had them for a long time. For example, the data breach warning feature is called Watchtower on 1Password. It can also check your credentials against a database storing information of known data breaches to see if yours have been compromised. However, if you do not want to use an extra app but still enjoy the benefits, Chrome’s latest upgrades are suitable substitutes.

Google said that all of the new features would be rolled out in the next couple of weeks.
