Google Warns Indian Users To Change Their Passwords Due To A Bug In Chrome 79

What Google advised Indian users is to change their passwords immediately for accounts on affected websites

After patching the Chrome 79 bug, Google has issued a warning in India of a data leak. What the tech giant advised users is to change their passwords immediately for accounts on affected websites. This warning comes in the form of pop-ups on mobile devices, laptops, and PCs.

The company has then delayed the rollout of the next update for Chrome after the bug deleted data of some Android apps. The release of Chrome 79 was resumed later this week.

Some of the affected websites are Freshtohome, a site providing clean seafood and a portal of an India media group.

Chrome 79 is part of Google’s effort to offer users better protection for their passwords. Its rollout was resumed this week for mobile and desktop platforms with a patch for the WebView bug.

As stated by Android Police, WebView renders web pages in apps. The function is quite popular among third-party apps when a page is opened. Some of the apps that utilize WebView are PhoneGap and Twitter.

According to an engineer of Chromium, Google is considering two options. The first one is to go back to the previous state and move back the migrated files to their previous locations. The other one is resuming the migration and continue sending the files to their assigned locations.

For now, Google has not announced which option it chooses; but the company promises that when it can make up its mind about this problem, the company will let users know immediately.

Last week, in a bug report, developers of Google admitted that they forgot to migrate the localStorage’s or WebSQL’s content to the new directory of Chrome 79.
