Google India Gives Financial And Technical Supports For 6 AI-Based Projects

These projects reportedly will be in charge of tackling several environmental, humanitarian, and social challenges.

On Tuesday, Google said it started working on six research projects in India, which are all based on Artificial Intelligence technology. These projects reportedly will be in charge of tackling several environmental, humanitarian, and social challenges to better the lives of people worldwide. Main sectors include disaster prevention, education, and healthcare.

Six teams will receive not only financial support but also computational resources from Google.

Google India said in a statement that six teams will receive not only the financial support but also computational resources from Google. The tech giant also promises to hand out other helps in various cutting-edge techniques in deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and so on.

According to Manish Gupta, Director of Google Research India, the number of AI enthusiasts has increased as people have to face big challenges. As far as they’re concerned, this has become one of the key focuses of Google India since the company opened a new AI lab in Bengaluru last year.

  1. IIT Delhi team led by Tavpritesh Sethi

Focus on: health information for communities exposed to HIV/AIDS.

  1. IIT Madras team led by Balaraman Ravindran and a non-profit organization, Armman.

Focus on: Predicting the health of pregnant mothers and their babies.

  1. IIT Madras and AI4Bharat team led by Pratyush Kumar and Mitesh Khapra.

Focus on: Working on open-source input tools for underserved local languages in India.

  1. Nanyang Technology University team led by Bo An and a non-profit organization named Ashoka Trust.

Focus on: Creating a warning system to minimize the risks caused by disasters.

  1. Singapore Management University team led by Pradeep Varakantha, in collaboration with the Wildlife Conservation Trust.

Focus on: Analyzing the human-wildlife conflict to help governments carry out policies.

  1. Singapore Management University team led by Arunesh Sinha and supported by the non-profit organization Khushibaby.
