Forget Google Maps! iPhone Users In India Can Use Apple Maps Instead!

The first time Apple rolled out its Maps services was in 2012 with the hope to beat Google Maps.

Apple has brought its latest feature – Apple Maps – to users in India, expanding their choices when looking for a navigation platform, except for Google Maps.

Apple Maps

Apple Maps has been working for many years, but it has just come to the Indian market in recent days. Finally, Indians have a chance to experience the exciting feature from the Cupertino-based tech company. Now, instead of Google Maps, users can try to navigate to any destination right on their iOS devices.

Apple Maps offers many transportation modes for users to choose, and then suitable directions for driving or walking will be shown. According to the first report from TheNextWeb, the company has developed cabs services from Uber and Ola into the application, which have a lot of similarities with Google Maps.

However, what the application provides is still restricted. For example, you won’t see any detail relating to public transport displaying on the screen. The feature may be available in the next few weeks.

Not all of the Indians have known the availability of this feature because only a few of Twitter accounts shared about the newly-updated Apple Maps. At least, the company has recently confirmed that Indian users can enjoy the feature right from now.

The Apple Maps' newest update was conducted months ago when its developer declared to reconstruct the service from the beginning. And then, its vans that are equipped with sensors will collect the necessary data, as well as shared unnamed data, similar to Google, from iOS devices.

The first time Apple rolled out its Maps services was in 2012 with the hope to beat Google Maps. That can be clearly seen in the update of iOS 6 when Google Maps no longer was the default application on iOS devices. In spite of all its efforts, what Apple received at that time was a real nightmare.

While Google Maps worked as a standalone app on iOS, the Maps service from Apple was strictly criticized due to the inaccuracy in data it offered to users. As a result, Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, had to recommend iPhone users to choose other services instead.

Compared to Apple’s navigation app, Google Maps has had a firm foundation for long. In addition, it keeps updating more modern and more flexible features, such as sharing location in real time, two-wheeler mode, or supporting local languages for the Indian market. In short, Apple Maps is facing a lot of difficulties in the long way ahead.
