Google has taken another step to make its Google Play Store a family-friendly place. In details, apps must make public the age group at which it aims. If certain apps are for children, developers must comply with further requirements to ensure users’ safety.
Here is what Google wrote on its Android Developers Blog:
All apps on the Play Store must comply with the new policy. Developers can see many age ranges in the “Target audience and content” section. Google said that most apps are not for children but for those who do, they must answer the following questions:
Apps that target children must satisfy specific requirements. Ads on these programs also have to be appropriate to be seen by kids.
Google also take another step to ensure that apps not for children do not get their attention unintentionally. Another thing to think about is the consideration of age range in one country to another.
However, the word children can have different meanings in distinct locations and contexts, so it is advisable that developers look into the restrictions and obligations in the country they target their product.
The “Target audience and content” has already been on Google Play Console, and every new app must meet its requirements. The ones that have already on the Store will have to follow suit this September.
