As predicted by rumors flying around, Apple is likely to roll out a tile-like item-tracking device called AirTag in the coming months. A recent report now discloses that the smart tracker would sport a removable coin-size cell battery like the Tile Pro. A prototype of the AirTag also revealed the process of changing the battery: If users want to remove and replace it, they’ll have to unscrew the back cover and make a counter-clockwise twist. On Monday, a report from Mac Rumors also confirmed that inserting the new battery would require the plus sign facing up.
Note that Apple’s plans could vary before an official launch as the aforementioned news comes from a few leaked images of the AirTag’s prototype. However, many tech-savvy fans expect the brand-new item tracker to at least get waterproof completely as well as feature the magnetic wireless charging technology that is similar to which the Apple Watch has supported.
Earlier information regarding Apple’s AirTag was first noticed in builds of the iOS 13 update when allowing users to locate misplaced items in the Find My Phone app with small item trackers. Last year, many insiders even predicted the coming of AirTags at the same time the ultra-wideband technology started coming packed with the company’s flagship iPhone 11.
To sweeten the pot, long-time analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently talked about the supplier of Apple when it comes to producing the system-in-package for these Ultra Wideband-enabled item trackers: Universal Scientific Industrial – a company based in Shanghai.
