According to an analyst from Credit Suisse, Apple could bring an overhauled design to the 2020’s iPhone. As quoted by a China Times’ report, Face ID will be ditched from iPhones early in next year. The report also said that one of Apple’s plans is to launch one iPhone model without Face ID or notch, at least. Instead, it’s expected to sport an under-screen camera as well as Touch ID 2 - basically a full-screen fingerprint technology for authentication.
As for the new fingerprint technology, a scanner could lay under the glass, similar to what happens on the Samsung Galaxy S10. To recall, Samsung’s flagship features an ultrasonic scanner along with a punch hole camera on the front. In the meantime, Apple is actively putting effort into making its own in-display fingerprint scanner, so that it could gain more independence from third-party suppliers.
However, those cited is nothing rather than referable information as Apple has not officially released such a “non-notch” or “non-Face ID” iPhone. It should be noted that Face ID is a commercial feature paired with iPhones, also being claimed that it’s 20 times more secure than the previous Touch ID.
On the flipside, some reports say an iPhone without Face ID will be set for the Chinese market at a lower price, and Apple is actually working on it. The famous analyst Ming Chi-Kuo suggests that a 2020’s iPhone variant is likely to come with a smaller camera lens and improved screen-to-body ratio.
As a tradition, the Cupertino-based company typically launches new iPhone lineup in September. For this year, it will reportedly introduce three iPhone, including iPhone 11, iPhone 11R, and iPhone 11 Max. All three models are said to pack new A13 chipsets under the hood and improved cameras.
