Annually, Adobe often organizes experimentative projects at the Max conference. Often referred to as "Sneaks," the above experiments which qualify standards will often be integrated into Adobe's products.
Among the "Sneaks" that are presented at this year's conference, a feature named "About Face" is the most impressive. Basically, the feature will help detect whether a face in an image has undergone a manipulation process, in what method and how much it is manipulated.
Today's modern photo editing apps can help revise our images, in a more attractive beauty or a controversial beauty. Anyway, Adobe has taken the leading role in questioning real but suspicious images, and the "about-face" feature helps verify them.
The use of the feature is not complicated at all. What you need to do is just uploading a picture into the tool, then the feature will take care of the rest for you. After a few seconds of uploading the picture, About Face will show possible manipulation signs that are detected. About Face also differs from face recognition algorithms that it doesn't evaluate the entire image. It will focus on each pixel of the image and let the user know where the image is actually manipulated. You will see a heatmap for the manipulated areas at the bottom. In addition, the feature will also help detect if someone has utilized Photoshop to make changes and adjustments on the picture.
Plus, you can undo the adjustments with the tool, which made an impressive performance on Adobe's stage. The appearance of a tool like About Face at the moment when we often hear fake news in art and lifestyle has been and will bring interesting changes in the future.
