As recently announced in a blog post, Adobe will be throwing out its Flash plugin platform as there will be no more updates for the technology as well as distribution in the future.
In specific, the company has planned to shut down this longstanding service at the end of 2020. Even though both users and browsers will no longer receive any support from Adobe if they’re using the Adobe Flash on a regular basis, the company committed to holding collaboration with partners like Google, Mozilla, and Apple as long as Adobe Flash is still in use.
While Flash is said to remain stable and compatible with all existing content, Adobe has started to urge businesses to migrate their websites to other platforms.
Adobe Flash was the essential factor that enables websites to display media files like videos and online games on the interface. But as days went by, the web has evolved with more standards like HTML 5 and CSS3, and Flash has lost its role.
Apple’s co-founder Steve Jobs was one of the few people who could foresee the gloomy future of the Adobe Flash. In 2010, he did publicly give an explanation for why Apple’s mobile lineup will never get along with the plugin.
Both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge recently end support for Adobe flash. As HTML 5 brings more secure experiences for users and benefits when it comes to battery life, the death of Flash has become inevitable.
