Last week, we heard that the Redmi Note 9 launch in India would take place sometime in the third week of July, but the exact date was kept hidden. Now, the Twitter account of Redmi India has confirmed that the phone will make its introduction in India on July 20th with the event starting at 12 p.m IST time.
The Redmi Note 9 price in India is expected to be around Rs. 11,000 and the handset will go on sale via Xiaomi India’s website and Amazon India.
Redmi Note 9: Specifications & Features
The device still has the same punch-hole design as its siblings, but the cut-out is moved to the top left corner, instead of being in the middle like the Note 9 Pro & Pro Max. Meanwhile, the back of the device is also made of plastic instead of glass like the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Pro Max. Obviously, this is a slight downgrade as its predecessor Redmi Note 8 has Gorilla Glass 5 on both the front and back.

In addition, Redmi Note 9 is also equipped with a fingerprint sensor on the back, instead of mounted on the side. The sensor is placed right below the camera setup. On the front, the Redmi Note 9 has a 6.53-inch IPS LCD screen that supports Full HD + resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The screen has 450 nit brightness and is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. Just like its siblings, the device also gets low blue light certification from TUV Rheinland.

Inside, the device is driven by MediaTek's Helio G85 chipset, paired with 3GB / 4GB RAM and 64GB / 128GB storage. In case you don’t know, the Helio G85 is an octa-core chipset with Mali-G52 GPU, and it lies between Helio G80 and Helio G90T in MediaTek’s chipset portfolio.

Moving to the back, the Redmi Note 9 is equipped with a quad-camera system housed inside a square module. The rear camera cluster includes a 48MP f / 1.79 primary sensor, an 8MP f / 2.2 ultra-wide-angle sensor with a 118-degree field of view, a 2MP f / 2.4 depth sensor, and a 2MP macro camera.
In addition, the phone also has a 13MP camera on the front for selfies and video calling. Under the hood, Xiaomi packs a 5020mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging through a USB-C port.
For software, the handset comes pre-loaded with Android 10-based MIUI 11. Other features include water-resistant nano-coating, dual-SIM slots and a microSD card slot, NFC, infrared sensor, and has a 3.5mm headphone jack.
