Xiaomi Working On A Phone With 50X Digital Zoom And 5X Optical Zoom

Xiaomi is planning to launch a brand new smartphone, and the company wants to offer a 5X optical zoom as well as up to 50X digital zoom in the smartphone. With its new offering, Xiaomi will likely add more competition to the market with rivals like Oppo Reno 2 and Huawei P30 Pro. These features have most recently been seen in a new Camera app, which is said to be included in the beta build of MIUI 11.

Rumors also suggest that other smartphone companies like Google and Samsung developing their own flagship phones in which they want to offer 5X optical zoom. In the latest MIUI Camera app, XDA Developers spotted a new "Tele 5x" zoom mode in the new Camera app of MIUI. This means there will likely be a telephoto lens that supports 5X optical zoom.

XDA Developers has also spotted the "ultra tele" feature in the new Camera application featuring a description that says the phone relies on 50X zoom for capturing more details of objects that are far away. The company hasn't disclosed any further details about its new innovation. However, as suggested by an early version of the app, Xiaomi may also plan to launch a phone that supports 8K video recording at a frame rate of 30 fps. That phone may also offer new telephoto lens capabilities to back 50X digital zoom as well as 5X optical zoom.

In September, the company announced the Mi Mix Alpha smartphone which comes with a 108MP main camera and it supports 8X digital zoom.
Recently, Oppo has launched its flagship smartphone called Oppo Reno 2 with the capabilities of 20X digital zoom, and the Huawei P30 Pro has been launched with 5X optical zoom along with 50X digital zoom. Besides, Samsung may also plan to launch the new Galaxy S11 with a 108 MP lens, which supports 5X optical zoom. Meanwhile, the upcoming Google Pixel 4 will likely offer support for 8X zoom.
