Recently, Xiaomi released two new smartphones in its Mi series, including Xiaomi Mi 6 and Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus. The former has all the features of the iPhone 7 Plus such as dual cameras, dual speakers, glossy black and even eliminates the 3.5mm headphone jack, while the Xiaomi Mi 6 price in India is only half of the iPhone 7 Plus price, which is Rs. 48,999.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 India launch date hasn’t been revealed yet, but we expect Mi India to announce it soon. The Xiaomi Mi 6 price in India could from Rs. 23,400. Meanwhile, Mi India might set the Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus price in India at Rs. 25,990.
The design of the handset is inherited from its predecessor Mi 5 with a glass rear panel and metal bezels. However, in the Mi 6 glossy Black version that we have on hand, the feeling is very similar to the iPhone 7 Jet Black. It's unclear whether the Mi smartphone is also scratch-resistant just like the iPhone 7 Jet Black. However, we know that it is also very easy to stick to fingerprints after only a few minutes of use.
In terms of features, the Mi 6 can be considered as an iPhone 7 Plus of the Android world. Two prominent features of the iPhone 7 Plus dual speakers and dual cameras are also equipped on the Mi 6. The brand said that its new flagship is also "water-resistant", but only "splash-resistant". So in terms of water resistance, the Mi 6 is still not on the same level as the IP67 standard of iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
Another feature the Chinese phone maker also "learned" from iPhone 7, but the bad way is that the Mi 6 no longer has a 3.5mm headphone jack. Users will be forced to use the USB-C to 3.5mm adapter included with the device or Bluetooth headset to listen to music.
Besides the same features as the iPhone 7, Xiaomi Mi 6 is still a high-end and powerful Android phone. It is equipped with the current top hardware configurations, including a Snapdragon 835 chipset, 6GB RAM and 64 / 128GB storage. The screen is still kept by Xiaomi in Full HD resolution, but with a size of 5.15 inches.
What do you think about our Xiaomi Mi 6 review? This is just our quick thought about the handset. We will give you a more detailed review in the near future. Let’s move to the comparison between the Mi’s latest phone and Samsung’s flagship, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. The Xiaomi Mi 6 launch date is 28 March 2018, while the two flagships were announced by Samsung India on 19 April 2017.
Xiaomi Mi 6 vs Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+: Price, Design, And Specifications
Price:
The Xiaomi Mi 6 price in India is expected to be Rs. 23,400. On the other hand, the Galaxy S8 price in India is set at Rs. 57,900, whereas its sibling Galaxy S8+ is priced at Rs. 64,900.
Design:
The Mi 6 and Galaxy S8 / S8 + are the top two smartphones from China and South Korea - Xiaomi and Samsung. Owning a design language of glass and metal, carrying a glossy black color - will the two manufacturers apply it on their products?
The Galaxy S8 / S8 + and Mi 6 are the latest generation of smartphones and are in the high-end segment from two manufacturers Samsung and Xiaomi. All considered as high-end smartphones, however, the Mi 6 is much cheaper than Galaxy S8. Currently, with only about Rs. 23,400, you can own the Mi flagship, and this price will be lowered in the near future. Meanwhile, with Galaxy S8, the number that you have to spend is at least Rs. 57,900.
The Galaxy S8 is superior in many ways, including the Infinity Display and Super AMOLED screen, but the Mi 6 also stands out with some features that many products with higher prices do not have, for example, a dual-camera setup, dual speakers and up to 6GB of RAM.
To begin the series of detailed analysis articles on Xiaomi Mi 6, please take a look at the comparative images between this device and the Galaxy S8 and S8 + duo of Samsung. Because all three devices are made of glass with a metal frame and share a glossy black color (Xiaomi calls it Bright Black while Samsung names the color Midnight Black), so this will be a good opportunity for us to evaluate the way each firm designs its products.
The Xiaomi phone (5.15 inches) has almost the same size as the Galaxy S8 (5.8 inches) while having a smaller screen. Meanwhile, Galaxy S8+, despite having a very large screen up to 6.2 inches, is only longer than Mi 6 and not significantly larger in width.
This advantage of the Galaxy S8 and S8 + comes from the fact that Samsung has cut the top and bottom edges of the device. Xiaomi Mi 6 has a thicker bezel, but it has the advantage of a dual speaker system, including one integrated into the speakerphone and the other at the bottom.
Samsung also had to cut off the physical navigation keys to switch to the virtual navigation keys in the display. Xiaomi Mi 6 retains the familiar design with a Home button and two navigation keys. The home button of the Mi phone is concave down, and functions as an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.
It can be considered that Xiaomi has "learned" Apple when removing the 3.5mm headphone jack on Mi 6. Meanwhile, Galaxy S8 still retains the audio jack. However, aesthetically, the Mi 6 is still a little more appreciated than the Galaxy S8 because Xiaomi has aligned the speaker grills, microphone, and USB-C port.
The edges of all three devices are polished, very similar to the way Apple used to make the iPhone 7 Jet Black. All three smartphones have a back made of glass, creating a comfortable grip. The Galaxy S8 uses the latest Gorilla Glass 5 for the back, while Xiaomi has not released official information. However, any glass is still glass - all three devices are very easy to stick to fingerprints, and to clean them is indeed a torture.
On the back of the Galaxy S8 are a camera, a single flash, a fingerprint sensor, and a heart rate sensor. Meanwhile, Xiaomi Mi 6’s back panel is simpler with dual camera setup and dual-tone dual flash. The camera of the Galaxy S8 also slightly protrudes, while it is completely flat in the Xiaomi Mi 6 India.
One advantage of Mi 6 that you will hardly recognize in this picture (because all three phones are so ... black!) Is that the Mi 6 has an integrated infrared sensor, which helps to control home devices such as TVs, air conditioners, etc. Meanwhile, Samsung has removed this sensor for the past few years.
Despite the above advantages of Mi 6, I still believe that the Galaxy S8 will be a product that attracts more attention from users, not only by brand but also because the Infinity Display screen is so beautiful.
After experiencing the Infinity Display screen of Galaxy S8, it really feels like returning to a smartphone with a thick screen border like Mi 6 is quite outdated. But with a cheaper price half, Mi 6 will still be a worthwhile choice for you to consider.
Conclusion:
Overall, the Mi 6 is a great device at an affordable price. The Xiaomi Mi 6 price in India is Rs. 23,400. However, for that price, it not only offers a powerful performance from the Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 835 SoC but also comes with advanced features and stunning design. So, are you happy with the expected Xiaomi Mi 6 price in India or you believe that Xiaomi India should set it lower? For now, we hope that Mi India will bring the phone to the Indian market.
