Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro Review: Plenty Of Power But The LCD Screen Makes It Feel A Little Aged

Picking the right big phone is a challenging task, to which the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro can attest.

Picking the right big phone is a challenging task, to which the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro can attest. Its size is similar to the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra but due to some ergonomic choices, the Mi 10T Pro is less comfortable than Samsung’s flagship.

Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro Display And Design

When we say Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro is a big phone, what we mean is 9.3mm thick, 76.4mm wide, and 218g of weight kind of big. So if you have small hands, don’t buy this phone.

The power button on the side doubles as the fingerprint sensor which is accurate and fast. However, the way users have to grip the phone to unlock it contributes to the uncomfortableness.

The back of the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro is covered by Gorilla Glass 5 and a matte finish, which can get smeary sometimes. The camera bump adds a few millimeters to the overall thickness but at least the design is eye-catching.

The phone might be as big as the S20 Ultra but when it comes to the display technology, it can’t hold a candle to Samsung’s flagship. What you have here is an LCD screen and while all the specs are decent, with 6.67 inches in size, 144Hz refresh rate, and HDR10+ but no contrast and colors found on an OLED screen.

In short, Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro has an acceptable design but it looks a bit aged in comparison with other massive phones on the market.

Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro Performance And Software

Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro specs sheet is impressive with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 paired with RAM of 8GB. As a result, the phone is fast with all kinds of tasks, from gaming to browsing the web. The phone has MIUI 12 on top of Android 10 out of the box.

Since Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro isn’t a one-handed phone, reaching from one side of the screen to another is hard, which exaggerates the poor choice of software design. The quick access panel can be opened with a right-hand swipe while the notification can be accessed with a left-hand swipe. So it’s next to impossible to navigate the phone with only one hand.

Gaming is one of the phone’s most noticeable strengths as it can handle titles like Asphalt 9 Legends but still maintain fast and smooth performance. Heating is a problem but it’s not unique to the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro as we have heard reports of a similar issue with other phones running Snapdragon 865.

You might have to spend some time getting used to Xiaomi’s MIUI but once you have got the hang of it, the software is totally manageable and useable. However, if you compare it against iOS or Google’s vanilla Android, it will rank last.

Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro Camera

On the rear, the camera module consists of a 108MP primary snapper, a 5MP macro camera, and a 13MP ultra-wide lens. The main camera is a Samsung HMX 1/1.33-inch sensor developed in collaboration with Xiaomi and is capable of shooting videos in 8K. While you have no hybrid or optical zoom, you have a 30x digital zoom.

The camera app offers lots of features to play with, including the ability to shoot with the back and front camera simultaneously, a long exposure mode, and a 108MP photo mode. However, the way the features are arranged doesn’t always make sense. For instance, to activate the Macro mode, you will have to open the drop-down menu instead of under the ‘More’ option.

The main sensor of Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro runs into problems when you get up close but this doesn’t mean you will constantly face focusing issues. The phone’s 5MP macro sensor is handier than the decorating 2MP cameras found on lots of other phones.

The 20MP front camera can take detailed and sharp pictures but the phone’s available modes aren’t as handy as those of Apple. Both the selfie and the rear cameras have the portrait mode and while the edge detection isn’t as good as on the Pixel 5, users have access to a slew of editing options.

Battery And Connectivity

Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro features a big 5,000mAh battery that can last to Day 2. However, adding gaming and video streaming to the mix and your time between charges is reduced to one day only. When the phone does need a boost of energy, users can rely on its 33W wired fast charging but there is no wireless charging, unfortunately.

The phone has a 5G modem but since there is no coverage where we live, we couldn’t test the function out for this Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro review.

Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro Price And Availability

Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro price in India starts at Rs 39,999 on Flipkart and in other parts of the world, the phone will set you back approximately $800.
