According to reports, Xiaomi may launch the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra with an under-display selfie camera in October or November this year.

Xiaomi has spent a lot of time and commitment on developing the under-display selfie camera technology, although up to now, the company has not released any commercial products equipped with the aforementioned unique technology.

Recently, a hands-on video of Xiaomi’s smartphone prototype with the under-display selfie camera was suddenly leaked online. In addition to the biggest difference in the selfie camera, both devices tested have front and back designs similar to the official version of the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra that Xiaomi introduced last month.

Chances are, these are two of the first prototypes of the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra, but didn’t make it to the mass production phase. Xiaomi has decided to choose a simpler and more popular punch-hole style, to be able to launch the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra in time for the company's 10th anniversary.

However, there is also a lot of speculation that Xiaomi will launch the Mi 10 Ultra under-display selfie camera version in mid-October or November. Some others believe that the Chinese technology giant will only to introduce this model to replace this year's Mi MIX generation, before mass production next year.

According to the person who posted the video, this is only a prototype and will not be released this year. Previously, Xiaomi also confirmed that it had set a goal to bring under-display selfie camera technology to market by 2021.

A few days ago, ZTE - one of the most popular phone brands in China, officially launched the Axon 20 5G - the world's first commercial smartphone with an in-display selfie camera.

However, the Axon 20 5G is a mid-range device and the quality of the selfie camera is not really impressive.

As for the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra, this is a high-end smartphone. Therefore, we still need to wait and see how Xiaomi will optimize the hardware, if they intend to launch an under-display camera version of this phone in the near future.
