Vivo Y50 Goes Official In India: Snapdragon 665 SoC & Quad Rear Cameras

Karamchand Rameshwar

Vivo has just released the mid-range Vivo Y50 in India with highlights like quad rear cameras, Snapdragon 665 SoC, and 5,000mAh battery (18W).

Vivo Y50 is a new mid-range smartphone that has just made its debut in India. The phone was announced in April in Cambodia. The highlights of this phone include quad rear cameras, 5,000 mAh battery, Android 10, and Snapdragon 665 SoC. With its price tag, Vivo is planning to take on the likes of Realme 6 Pro and POCO X2 with this phone. However, on paper, we believe that it is a nearly impossible task for the Vivo Y50. While the Vivo's new phone only has a Snapdragon 665 SoC, the POCO X2 and Realme 6 Pro are equipped with the Snapdragon 720G, which is a much more powerful chipset. Not just that, the Realme and POCO phones also have a 64MP main sensor while the Vivo Y50 only has a 13MP unit.

Vivo Y50 is a decent phone, but it seems to be inferior to POCO X2 or Realme 6 Pro.

Vivo Y50: Price & Availability

The brand only offers a single 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model for the Vivo Y50 in India You can grab the phone for Rs. 17,990 via Amazon, Vivo India’s online store, Flipkart, Tata CLiQ, Paytm, and many offline stores across the country from today.

Vivo Y50: Specifications & Features

On the front, it is covered by a large 6.53-inch display of FHD+ resolution. It features an “Ultra-O” panel, meaning it has a single punch-hole housing a selfie shooter, which is placed at the upper left corner. It is powered by a Snapdragon 665 SoC at the helm, which is one of Qualcomm’s latest mid-range chipsets. The brand only offers a single variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage, which is expandable with a microSD card. Fueling the device is a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging technology. Overall, the device is not a great choice in the sub-Rs. 20,000 price.

Overall, I don't think the Vivo Y50 offers a high value for the money if you compare it to POCO X2 or Realme 6 Pro.

Moving to the camera department, it gets a single selfie camera with unknown resolution housed inside the front punch-hole and four cameras at the back placed inside a rectangular housing. The rear setup includes a 13MP primary camera, a 2MP dedicated macro camera, a 2MP portrait shooter, and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle snapper with a 120-degree viewing angle. Finally, there is also a fingerprint reader mounted at the back for biometric security.
