It seems like there won’t be any Xiaomi Mi Max smartphones launching in the future. According to Redmi’s VP Lu Weibing, the company has decided to put an end to the Xiaomi Mi Max series. Earlier in the year, Xiaomi’s CEO had hinted that there wouldn’t be any new addition to the Xiaomi Mi Note and Xiaomi Mi Max for this year. However, the brand recently released the Xiaomi Mi Note 10, so there is still a chance that Xiaomi will release a new Mi Max smartphone. To recall, the smartphones in the Mi Max series all came with a large screen at a low price. However, since most of the smartphones these days all sport a big and bezel-less display, the Xiaomi Mi Max series’ most unique feature seems to be not unique anymore. The Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is the last offering in the series, which is packed with a massive 6.9-inch display.

If the company was planning to launch a new Mi Max phone, it would have been done by now. The Xiaomi Mi Max 3 launched in July 2018 with a Snapdragon 636 SoC. As mentioned, the two most unique features of the phone are its large battery and big display. Performance-wise, they are not that powerful, and that is why it offers a much longer battery life. For example, the battery capacity of the Mi Max 3 is whopping 5,500 mAh and that could ensure a full-day battery life on the handset.
Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun stated that the brand is focusing on three key brands, Mix series, CC series, and online series. He didn’t mention the Max series, and that pretty much confirmed its discontinuation. Moreover, Xiaomi has quite a few plans like foldable smartphones. The company has already confirmed that it is developing a foldable display and it’s possible that this handset might be called Max. It is rumored to be a smartphone with a really big display when unfolded.
