Sony could release at least one 5G smartphone at the upcoming MWC event in late next month. This is only a rumor, so we can’t confirm the reliability of several details. In addition, the leaks and rumors haven’t even finalized a name for the upcoming flagship yet. We have heard about “Xperia 3”, “Xperia 0”, and even “ Sony Xperia 1.1”.
Xperia 3 - Xperia 0 - Xperia 1.1: Rumored Specifications
The device might feature a 4K display with HDR support and gets processing power from the latest Snapdragon 865 SoC with a Snapdragon X55 5G modem. As for cameras, it could feature a quad-camera cluster at the back with a ToF 3D camera.
The main sensor could get 48MP resolution or even 64MP and it could be aided by a 12MP telephoto lens and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. The leaks haven’t settled whether Sony will go for its new 12MP Sony IMX555 sensor, which will be used by Samsung in its upcoming Galaxy S20 and S20 Plus.
As for the Xperia 1.1 price, Sony’s upcoming flagship could carry a price tag of around $900 (roughly Rs. 64,200).
Xperia 5: Rumored Specifications
The second model that is expected to arrive at the MWC event is Sony Xperia 5 Plus. It could be slightly more compact compared to the above flagship, but we haven’t got any reliable information about its display size. Recently CAD renders reveal that the handset will carry a quad-camera lens setup and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor on the Power button. As for hardware specifications, it could be powered by the powerful Snapdragon 865 SoC with an integrated 5G modem.
Apart from these two models, Sony is also expected to release new mid-range smartphones to take over the Xperia 10 lineup launched last year. They are said to support 5G connectivity as well. Recently, a Sony smartphone with model number Sony K8220 passed through Geekbench with a Snapdragon 765G SoC.
We could still have to wait a while until these phones go up for sale. The Xperia 5 Plus and Xperia 1.1 are said to be up for pre-orders in May while the mid-range smartphones might be released for sales in June.
