Overall, the Redmi Note 9 Pro offers everything you need for a budget smartphone and the only downside is that the Redmi Note 9 Pro refresh rate is 60Hz.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro has just launched at a critical time for Xiaomi's sub-brand. This product has the mission of reaffirming Xiaomi's dominance in the low-cost segment in large markets like India. Sadly, the Redmi Note 9 Pro refresh rate is only 60Hz, which is also the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max refresh rate. Currently, the handset has been sold in India at a starting price of Rs. 12,999. Let’s take a look at our Redmi Note 9 Pro review to see whether the handset is worth purchasing or not.

Much bigger than its predecessors

The Redmi Note 7 Pro was the first phone in the series to get the new gradient finish and the Redmi Note 8 Pro also comes with this design language. The Redmi Note 9 Pro design is further developed and it also comes with a more premium glass black.

The back of the handset looks very glossy, isn't it

The Redmi Note 9 Pro has three color options including Aurora Blue, Glacier White, and Interstellar Black. In particular, the Blue version is the most prominent color version while the Black version seems to be more elegant.

Bright colors combined with the square camera cluster in the middle of the back exudes a unique identity of the product. Another interesting change this year is that the phone also has a fingerprint sensor mounted on the power button, similar to the POCO X2. Sadly, we expected to see the Redmi Note 9 Pro Refresh Rate get upgraded to 90Hz or 120Hz like the Redmi K30, but that didn't happen.

There are a fingerprint sensor mounted on a power button and a volume button on the right spine.

Despite its striking design, the phone has a large body with a size of 165.7 x 76.6 x 8.8 mm. This is one of the tallest and widest smartphones on the market. For comparison, Samsung's giant Galaxy S20 Ultra measures 166.9 x 76 x 8.8 mm. The Redmi Note 9 Pro is 1.2 mm shorter, but 0.6 mm wider.

The bottom of the device houses a USB-C port, external speaker, microphone, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro also weighs up to 209g so it is quite compact when holding it and this is a very difficult device to use with one hand. Part of the reason for this is that Xiaomi has integrated a huge battery capacity of 5,020 mAh, the highest capacity on the a Redmi smartphone.

Not many upgrades in terms of display - Redmi Note 9 Pro Refresh Rate Is Only 60Hz

Redmi Note 9 Pro's punch-hole screen.

The device has a 6.67-inch IPS LCD panel that still has FullHD + resolution just like its predecessor. The refresh rate of Redmi Note 9 Pro is 60Hz and Xiaomi says it has decided to continue to use the 60Hz screen because there aren't many apps and games that support a 90Hz refresh rate screen. Therefore, don’t be too disappointed that the Redmi Note 9 Pro refresh rate is 60Hz.

Massive 5,020mAh battery offers a solid battery life, party thanks to Redmi Note 9 Pro refresh rate

The Note 9 Pro display only supports the 60Hz refresh rate but this has helped this product achieve a great battery life. The Note 9 Pro has been completely upgraded to a large capacity of 5,020 mAh.

Redmi Note 9 Pro battery life is very good, partly thanks to the fact that Redmi Note 9 Pro Max display refresh rate is 60Hz.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro battery life for PUBG Mobile is up to 11 hours while it can deliver 200 hours of music playback and a standby time of 20 days. The 5,020 mAh battery provides up to two days of continuous use and supports 18W fast charging.

Redmi Note 9 Pro performance with Snapdragon 720G chip

The handset is equipped with Snapdragon 720G processor which consists of two A76 cores clocked at 2.3 GHz and six A55 cores to help save energy at the frequency of 1.80GHz. The chipset is aided by an Adreno 618 GPU. In everyday tasks, there is hardly any lag.

Redmi Note 9 Pro PUBG Mobile performance. It offers great experience thanks to the 8GB RAM and Snapdragon 720G chipset. Sadly, the refresh rate of Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is only 60Hz.

The phone is offered in two variant - 4 GB RAM / 64 GB storage and 6 GB RAM / 128 GB storage. Both versions come with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.1 storage standard.

The device still has a 3.5mm headphone jack, IR blaster, waterproof P2i coating, and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity.

Redmi's latest smartphone also has NavIC satellite navigation, which is faster than traditional GPS. If the NavIC signal cannot be found for any reason, the device will switch to normal GPS. The device is preinstalled with MIUI 11 interface with a modern design based on the latest Android 10.

Quad rear cameras with many features

The device comes with Android 10 pre-installed. There is still a relatively thick chin at the bottom, which is quite expected for an affordable smartphone.

Redmi equips this phone with 4 rear cameras and the main sensor is Samsung GM2 48 MP, combined with an 8 MP wide-angle lens with a 120-degree viewing angle, a 5 MP macro lens, and 2 MP depth camera. The front of the machine is a 16 MP selfie camera punched inside a cut-out.

The handset sports a punch-hole display, which definitely looks better than the water-drop notch. Sadly, the Redmi Note 9 Pro refresh rate is only 60Hz.

This camera system has the ability to shoot RAW mode and night mode. The photo quality has been markedly improved compared to the previous generation.

Overall, the handset brings many interesting new features, especially the massive 5,020mAh battery, strong performance in the price range and many camera features. I don’t think you could find a better offering than this one. The only downside is that the Redmi Note 9 Pro refresh rate is 60Hz, which also the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max display refresh rate. If you are interested, you can wait for the official sales of the handset in India. Sadly, Redmi has announced to delay the release of the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max in India to a later date due to the COVID-19 outbreak in India.
