The Redmi K20 Pro has surfaced on the camera test of DxOMark benchmarking site. Gaining a 102 score in total, the phone matches Google Pixel 3 phone and ranks higher than the iPhone XR. With the price tag of only under $400 (roughly Rs. 28,000) , the handset is greatly more affordable than the Pixel 3 and iPhone XR.
The total score is not everything. The handset’s camera gained 108 score, putting it close to last year’s flagships. For instance, the iPhone XS Max achieved 110 score while the Galaxy Note 9 gained the score of 107 in the camera tests.
It is known that the camera of K20 Pro performs quite good. The major criticisms against this handset are its occasional color and limited dynamic range issues. That the K20 Pro had such a high score result is due to the phone’s triple camera setup including a telephoto, ultra-wide, and wide sensors. Only a few handsets in the same price range come with this module. And this is also the reason why the iPhone XR and Pixel 3 couldn’t gain higher score.
The handset’s telephoto sensor with 2X zoom capability offers an average performance. So it is not on the similar level to the ones on the iPhone XS Max or Mi 9. Additionally, the ultra-wide sensor nominally features a focal length of 12mm, although enabling the distortion correction feature brings it down to nearly 15mm.
Video recording keeps the overall score of the phone from topping the ranking. Particularly, the phone only gained 89 points in the video test, lowering the final result which is much lower than those of many flagships launched in 2018-2019 period.
In general, DxOMark claimed that the Redmi K20 Pro cannot make it into the top 10 of the ranking, but achieves an amazing score in its price range. The phone's camera can generate images with a good texture/noise balance and good exposure in most conditions. However, its visible color casts and limited dynamic range in some situations a bit negate the general positive picture. For under $400, it seems to be the best candidate among other phones in the same price segment.
