The Redmi 8A was announced in India last month, and Xiaomi India’s managing director Manu Kumar Jain also teased that the Redmi 8 might be next smartphone coming to the Indian market. Now, it seems the brand is planning to launch the device in its home market as well. The phone was just spotted on China Telecom listing with M1908C3IC model number. According to the listing, the Redmi 8 might come with a 6.21-inch HD+ panel with a dewdrop notch to house a selfie camera and the same polycarbonate build as its predecessor. Software-wise, it will still boot Android 9 Pie out of the box with Xiaomi’s MIUI 10 on top.
In terms of camera, the Redmi 8 is tipped to feature a dual-camera setup that consists of a 12MP main sensor a 2MP secondary shooter (likely a depth sensor). Powering the phone is a Snapdragon 439 chipset, which is a downgraded compared to the Snapdragon 632 SoC on the Redmi 7. Paired with the chipset is 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, though it might be available in 2GB and 3GB variants as well. Helping users take selfies will be an 8MP camera on the front. Just like the Redmi 8A, the handset will also have a 5,000 mAh battery, which is larger than the 4,000 mAh cell on its predecessor. For security, it will make use of a fingerprint reader mounted at the back. The phone will measure 156.33 x 75.40 x 9.40 and weighs 188g.
Color options for the Redmi 8 are expected to be Blue, Green, and Red. Moreover, the listing on China Telecom website also suggests that the price of the Redmi 8 in China might be CNY 1,599 (around Rs. 15,900). However, this pricing might be just a placeholder, and the exact pricing might be lower than this. Since the device is listed on the database of China Telecom, its launch might not be too far away.
