After announcing Redmi 8A, Xiaomi India’s managing director Manu Kumar Jain teased the launch of the Redmi 8 in India as well. In a new tweet, he has now confirmed the exact launch date of the Redmi 8 in India to be 9 October. You can see on the teaser photo that there are two sensors, and that should suggest a dual-camera setup on the handset stacked vertically. Moreover, the brand also touts the device as a battery champion, hinting that it could come with a massive 5,000 mAh battery, which is the same as the Redmi 8A. Moreover, the tweet also says ‘store more’, suggesting possible storage expandable option as well. That is also in line with the listing on the China Telecom database.
Aside from that, the specifications of the Redmi 8 was also leaked in full on the China Telecom listing. It is listed to come with a Snapdragon 439 octa-core processor and 4GB of RAM. Moreover, it will pack a 6.21-inch display with HD+ resolution and a water-drop notch for a selfie camera. It will ship with Android 9 Pie out of the box with MIUI 10 on top. Camera-wise, there is a dual-camera setup as teased in the Tweet, including a 12MP main sensor and a 2MP depth-sensing camera. On the front, it will feature an 8MP camera for taking selfies and video calling.
For security, it should be equipped with a fingerprint reader on the rear for biometric security. The device will be available in Blue, Green, and Red hues and measures 156.33 x 75.40 x 9.40 mm. As for the price, the listing suggests that the device will be priced at CNY 1,599 (roughly Rs. 15,900) in China. Only around five days until its official launch, so we should get more details in the coming days.
