Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi has just announced its Redmi K20 series in India after launching it in China back in May. It didn’t take long until its rival Realme took a jab at this launch. Oppo’s former sub-brand went on Twitter and highlighted how its Realme X is Rs. 5,000 cheaper compared to the Redmi K20 while having the same pop-up front camera and full-screen display. Given the intense competition between them in India, this isn’t unexpected at all.
Realme did the same thing over the Redmi 7A that launched in India just a week ago. However, the brand doesn’t give the full picture at the comparison between the Realme X and Redmi K20. While the Realme X indeed features the same display and pop-up selfie camera as the Redmi K20, there are a few things that the Redmi device is better than the Realme counterpart.
The Realme's latest phone does sport a larger display than its Redmi counterpart (roughly 5 percent more). However, the Snapdragon 730 SoC on the Redmi K20 is considered to be better than the Snapdragon 710 on the Realme X. Moreover, while the base option of the Realme device packs 4GB RAM, it is 6GB on the Redmi handset.
In terms of camera, the Redmi K20 also has one more camera over to its rival. The Realme X is equipped with a 48MP primary camera with an f/1.7 lens and a 5MP depth sensor with an f/2.4 lens. Meanwhile, the Redmi K20 sports a 48MP primary shooter with an f/1.8 lens, an 8MP telephoto f/2.4 lens with 2x optical zoom support, and a 13MP ultra-wide camera with an f/2.4 lens. It's no brainer to choose which phone has the better camera setup. Finally, the 4,000mAh battery that Redmi offers is also larger than the 3,765mAh cell.
The decision to pay for an additional of Rs. 5,000 is still all up to you. You should understand what you need on a smartphone and make the decision which one to go for.
