Oppo Reno 2 Series Announced in India, Price Starts From Rs. 36,990

Oppo's sub-brand Reno has just announced its second smartphone series called Reno 2 that includes three offerings with quad rear cameras.

Oppo’s sub-brand Reno has just announced a new smartphone series in India dubbed Oppo Reno 2. As expected, the Oppo Reno 2 lineup comprises of Oppo Reno 2, Oppo Reno 2F, and Oppo Reno 2F. The Reno 2 is the top-end model in the series. Just like its predecessor Oppo Reno phone, the handset features a shark-fin pop-up camera on the front. Aside from that, it is equipped with a quad camera system with 20x digital zoom and 5x hybrid zoom, a Dynamic AMOLED panel, a Snapdragon 730G SoC. On the other hand, the Oppo Reno 2F and Reno 2Z also come with AMOLED panels and quad rear camera setups, but they are offered at a lower price compared to the Reno 2.

OPPO Reno 2, Reno 2F, & Reno 2Z: Price

The Oppo Reno 2 is retailed at Rs. 36,990 in India for its sole variant. The handset comes in Luminous Black and Ocean Blue. It is already available for pre-order and will go on sale on 20 September. You can purchase the series via Amazon India, Snapdeal, Tata Cliq, and Flipkart.

Moving to the Reno 2Z, it is offered for Rs. 29,990 and is available in Polar Light, Luminous Black, and Sky White colors. Just like the Oppo Reno 2, it is already up for pre-order while interested buyers will have to wait until 6 September.

Finally, the Reno 2F’s price hasn’t been revealed yet, but it is confirmed to go on sale in November and there are two color variants of the phone - Lake Green and Sky White.

OPPO Reno 2: Specifications

All three phones in the series are belong to the mid-range and upper-midrange segment. The top-end phone in the series is Oppo Reno 2 that packs a Snapdragon 730G SoC, while the Reno 2Z and Reno 2F are powered by an Helio P90 and an Helio P70, respectively. However, they still come with very interesting features such as shark-fin pop-up selfie camera, quad rear cameras, beefy battery and more.

The Oppo Reno 2 sports a 6.55-inch Dynamic AMOLED panel with an aspect ratio of 20:9 and FHD+ resolution. Thanks to the pop-up selfie camera design, its display doesn’t have any notch and features an on-screen fingerprint reader. It is protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass 6. The brand claims that its display comes with an “improved E3 Sunlight Screen”, that offers enough brightness even in outdoor environment for less battery usage.

Ticking at its core is a Snapdragon 730G, coupled with 8GB RAM / 256GB storage. It is also packed with Touch Boost 2.0, Frame Boost 2.0, Engine Boost 2.0, and Hyper Boost 2.0 for even more powerful performance.

In terms of camera, it comes with a quad camera system at the back, including a 48MP SonyIMX586 main sensor with support for EIS and OIS. The main sensor is aided by an 8MP ultra-wide camera with 116-degree field of view, a 13MP telephoto unit, and a 2MP monochrome lens. As mentioned, its cameras support 20X digital zoom and 5X hybrid zoom to take photos of subjects at a far distance without compromising too much details. On the front, it has a 16MP camera for selfies and video chats. Camera features include HDR Portrait, portrait mode, AI Beauty mode, ultra-macro shot, and ultra-dark mode. 

Software-wise, it ships with ColorOS 6.1 that is based on Android 9 Pie to take care of the software side of things. Finally, it is fueled by a 4,000 mAh battery with support for VOOC 3.0 technology.

OPPO Reno 2Z: Specifications

The Reno 2Z sports a 6.53-inch AMOLED panel with FHD+ Resolution, an aspect ratio of 19.5:9, and FHD+ resolution. For security, it is also equipped with an on-screen fingerprint reader just like the Reno 2. Powering the phone is an Helio P90 chipset, coupled with 8GB of RAM / 256GB of storage. The brand also offers Engine Boost 2.0, Frame Boost 2.0, Touch Boost 2.0, and Hyper Boost 2.0 for better performance.

On the imaging front, it is also packed with quad rear cameras, which are a 48MP Sony IMX586 main sensor with OIS, an 8MP wide-angle camera, a 2MP portrait lens, and a 2MP lens. There is a 16MP shark-fin pop-up snapper on the front to take care of selfie duties. Its cameras are supported by almost the same features as the Reno 2, though it doesn’t support 5X optical zoom.

Android 9 Pie-based ColorOS 6 takes care of the software side of things while a 4,000 mAh battery with VOOC 3.0 support keeps the entire setup running.

OPPO Reno 2F: Specifications

The Reno 2F is quite similar to the Reno 2Z. It features the same 16MP shark-fin camera and a 6.53-inch Super AMOLED panel with a Gorilla Glass 5 layer. Lying at its core is an Helio P70 SoC, aided by 8GB of RAM / 128GB of storage. It is equipped with a similar camera system as the Oppo Reno 2Z, but it has a 48MP Samsung GM1 sensor instead of a Sony IMX586 one. Instead of ultra-dark mode, it has Ultra-Night Mode 2.0 for low-light photography. Finally, it still boots Android 9.0 Pie with the company’s ColorOS 6.0 at launch and is fueled by a 4,000 mAh battery with the same VOOC 3.0 fast charging solution support.
