The OnePlus 8 has been released as the company’s next-generation flagship series. However, unlike the previous lineups, the OnePlus 8 & OnePlus 8 series seem to step in the flagship territory instead of being flagship-killer devices. The two smartphones come with a punch-hole design, powerful hardware configurations, 5G connectivity, and Snapdragon 865 SoC. However, with the price difference, is it worth upgrading to OnePlus 8 or grab the OnePlus 7T at a lower price? Well, here is our answer to that question. Let’s go through the detailed comparison between the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 8.
OnePlus 8 vs OnePlus 7T: Design & Display

In terms of design, the newly-released OnePlus 8 is significantly different from its predecessor in some aspects. The new phone features a punch-hole display as well as vertically-stacked triple cameras at the back. Meanwhile, the OnePlus 7T has a water-drop notch display and triple rear cameras stacked inside a circular housing on the rear. Apart from that, the two smartphones look quite similar to each other.

Both the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 8 feature a glass-sandwich design and a 6.55” Fluid AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. They also have an alert slider and a power button on the right side and a volume rocker on its left spine. At the bottom edge, there are a speaker grill and a USB-C port.
OnePlus 8 vs OnePlus 7T: Performance & Software
The OnePlus 8 is equipped with the top-end Snapdragon 865 chipset, which is claimed to be 25% faster as well as more power-efficient than the Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC. The phone is available in multiple variants with 8/12GB of RAM and 128 / 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage. In terms of software, it runs on the latest Android 10 with OxygenOS on top. Moreover, the handset also has the new Dark Theme 2.0 that is compatible with a lot of apps.
The OnePlus 7T, on the other hand, gets the power from the Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset, aided by 8GB of RAM and 128 / 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage. Of course, it can not be as powerful as the OnePlus 8, but it will surely be able to handle almost every task with no stutter or lags. It is also pre-loaded with Android 10-based OxygenOS. For now, it doesn’t support Dark Theme 2.0 like the OnePlus 8, but it should get it via an OTA update in the near future.
OnePlus 8 vs OnePlus 7T: Cameras

Both smartphones have a triple camera lens setup at the back, which are quite similar to each other. The OnePlus 8 rocks a 48MP Sony IMX586 main sensor with EIS, OIS, and an f/1.75 lens; a 16MP ultra-wide lens with an f/2.2 aperture and 116-degree viewing angle; and a 2MP macro camera with an f/2.4 aperture. The OnePlus 7T has a similar setup, except for the 2MP macro camera being replaced by a 12MP telephoto lens with an f/2.2 aperture. In case you don’t know, the telephoto lens is used for taking photos at a far distance, while the macro camera can be used to take close-up shots. It is worth noting that the 7T does support software-backed macro mode.

For taking selfies and video chats, the two OnePlus smartphones are equipped with a 16MP camera with Time Lapse, EIS, and Full-HD video recording @ 30fps. However, the one on the OnePlus 8 should be slightly better as it is capable of capturing more light and details thanks to the larger f/2.45 lens (OnePlus 7T has an f/2.0 lens).
OnePlus 8 vs OnePlus 7T: Battery & Other Features
The battery of the OnePlus 8 is significantly larger than that of the OnePlus 7T. While the former is powered by a 4,300 mAh battery, the latter is equipped with a 3,800 mAh unit. Both of them support the same 30W Warp fast charging technology. As for connectivity, the newer model supports 5G while the last year’s OnePlus phone only supports 4G VoLTE. Moreover, the OnePlus 8 has Wi-Fi 6, NFC, GPS / GLONASS, USB-C port, Bluetooth 5.1, dual-SIM slots, and 4G LTE. Meanwhile, the OnePlus 7T gets Wi-Fi 802.11ac, NFC, GPS / A-GPS, USB-C port, and Bluetooth 5.0. As for biometric security, both of them have an under-display fingerprint sensor.
OnePlus 8 vs OnePlus 7T: Price in India
The OnePlus 7T price in India is Rs. 34,999 for the base variant with 8GB RAM + 128GB storage while the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage model is priced at Rs. 37,999. It is available in Glacier Blue and Froster Silver via the company’s official website and Amazon India.

Sadly, the OnePlus 8 price in India has just been announced though it is yet to be up for sale.
- 6GB RAM + 128GB storage = Rs. 41,999
- 8GB RAM + 128GB storage = Rs. 44,999
- 12GB RAM + 256GB storage = Rs. 49,999
Its color options are Glacial Green, Onyx Black, and Interstellar Glow.
