OnePlus 7 Pro Priced At Rs. 48,999 In India, But Costs About Rs. 22,000 To Make

OnePlus 7 Pro is one of the most common phones in the Indian market thanks to the attractive pricing. Recently, a leaked bill of materials (BOM) spotted online showed that OnePlus 7 Pro’s material expense is only less than half of the selling price. Particularly, the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage base variant has the total material cost of around US$324.71 (roughly Rs. 22,300).

The leaked bill has surfaced on Weibo social network, so there isn’t any way to prove authenticity. But, some individual components’ prices are similar to the bills of materials leaked before. Accordingly, the phone’s costliest part is its US$80.08 (roughly Rs. 5,500) AMOLED display sourced from Samsung. Another expensive part of the handset is the flagship chipset from Qualcomm, Snapdragon 855 chipset priced at US$70 (roughly Rs. 4,800).

In addition, the 128GB storage and 6GB RAM respectively cost US$20 (roughly Rs. 1,400) and US$26 (roughly Rs. 1,800). The material expense for other memory variants including 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant may be higher. Three sensors on the back of the phone have the same cost of $27.29 (roughly Rs. 1,900). Meanwhile, the selfie shooter with 16MP resolution costs US$8.78 (roughly Rs. 602). And while the overall BOM in the above image goes up to US$258.77 (Rs. 17,800 approximately), the overall expense has been fixed at US$324.21 (roughly Rs. 22,300), which is likely to consider the expenses for the contract manufacturing and the materials for the device’s body.

While OnePlus seems to make a 50% margin on its OnePlus Pro, there are also other costs like marketing and logistics involved with a unit, which can raise the expenses for the phone maker as well as eat up its profit margins. Some similar cases include Huawei Mate 30 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S10+, which respectively cost around US$364 (roughly Rs. 18,100) and US$420 (roughly Rs. 28,800) to make.

To recall, OnePlus unveiled its OnePlus 7 Pro in May 2019 and is considered as the most powerful smartphone by the brand. It features a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a truly bezel-less design, QHD+ resolution, and 90Hz refresh rate. Besides, the phone has a pop-up selfie camera on the upper edge. In terms of software, the phone runs OxygenOS based on Android 9.0 Pie. Under the hood, it comes with Snapdragon 855 chipset. Regarding the imaging capabilities, the phone features a triple rear camera setup including a 48MP main sensor, an 8MP telephoto sensor, and a 16MP wide sensor. Powering the handset is a big 4,000 mAh battery supporting the 30W Warp Charge tech. Currently, the phone are available for three variants in India including 6GB of RAM and 128GB for Rs. 48,999, 8GB of RAM and 256GB for Rs. 52,999, as well as 12GB of RAM and 256GB for Rs. 57,999.
