OnePlus has been consolidating its brand in the market as the flagship killer. From its first handset, the Chinese phone maker has been delivering top specifications at a lower cost in comparison with the flagships from Apple, LG, Samsung and also others. And OnePlus has launched some special editions of its handsets, by adding a unique touch of feel and look to them.
The latest attempt of OnePlus is the McLaren Edition of its OnePlus 6T and the design of that edition mostly came from the MCL33 2018 Formula 1 car. This is not the first special edition handset as OnePlus already released the Avenger Edition of OnePlus 6 and Star Wars Edition of OnePlus 5T before that. But what are the differences in terms of design between these special models and regular OnePlus handsets?
OnePlus 5T Star Wars Edition
This is the first special edition that OnePlus has made. In terms of specifications, it had the same specs as the OnePlus 5T, which were a Snapdragon 835 chipset, dual cameras on the rear, a 16MP front-facing camera and so on.
The is edition also comes with 8GB RAM/128GB storage. And as it is a Star Wars Edition, the handset’s metal frame is painted with Star Wars and Lucasfilm logo at its bottom half on the back.
The phone also packed a hard case with the logo of Star Wars on it. Other notable changes included red colour dash to the Alert Slider, UI accents with red colour and dark theme. The handset’s price was Rs. 38,999.
OnePlus 6 Marvel Avengers Edition
This OnePlus 6 Marvel Avengers Edition hardly had any difference in design from the OnePlus 6, but it had some interesting finishing touches. The device had a glass back with a Kevlar finish and also a logo of the Avengers in gold colour at the bottom of the phone. There was also a thick rubber case with the logo of Iron Man carved out on its case.
The device’s packing box also included a Golden badge which could get users a gift from OnePlus if they managed to gather all of them. There were some software tweaks on the phone such as wallpapers of the Avengers Infinity.

Besides that, the other features were pretty much the same as the regular OnePlus 6 which featured a 6.28-inch notched display, a Snapdragon 845 chipset, 8GB of RAM, dual camera setup. There was another difference in internal storage as the special edition came with 256GB internal storage. And with the additions, the Marvel Avengers Edition’s price was set at Rs. 44,999.
OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition
The latest special edition, OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition, has a stripe with Papaya Orange color at the back of the device where the McLaren logo is located. The pattern under the device’s glass back is based on the carbon fiber design of McLaren. This special edition is available at Rs. 50,999 in the Indian market, and it will soon be available in Amazon.in.
Besides its design, OnePlus also adds theming elements to its UI, where quick setting shortcut buttons are in Papaya Orange colour.
In terms of specification, the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition is the first smartphone with 10GB RAM in the Indian market. Moreover, OnePlus also adds its new 30W Warp Charge technology which is claimed to charge the handset’s 3700mAh battery from 0 to 50 percent in just 30 minutes. OnePlus states that its battery can power the device for the whole day. And for added grip, the Chinese phone maker also packs the McLaren Edition device with a silicon case with carbon fiber pattern.
Again, as it is a McLaren edition, OnePlus even adds Papaya Orange colour in the device’s charger and charging cable. Besides from above differences, it has the same features as on the regular OnePlus 6T which sports a 6.4-inch Full-HD+ water-drop notch display, Snapdragon 845 chipset, dual cameras on the rear, 16MP front-facing camera, Android 9 Pie.
