The competition in the gaming-centric phone segment has obviously become fiercer. It is known that ASUS has introduced the world’s first phone powered by Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC – ROG Phone 2. The phone is already official as unveiled on July 21, although it may not be available on the retail stores until September. Meanwhile, Nubia also announced the launch of its Snapdragon 855 Plus phone. The teaser poster has the line “Red Magic 3”, however, a new leak has appeared which reveals the device’s official name.

As per Sudhanshu Ambhore tweet, the Nubia’s phone with Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC will be introduced as Red Magic 3S, which sounds better than adding Plus suffix when the phone only changes its chipset compared to its predecessor. As you may know, phones with “Plus” suffix in the names usually represent that it’s a bigger variant of the base model.
The above info is unconfirmed, so we should take it with a grain of salt, but it seems reasonable. Besides, it’s not sure if the brand will go for other upgrades on this phone other than the chipset from the Red Magic 3. It is believed that Red Magic 3S probably has an additional special colour version compared to the base model.
Nubia has not announced the official launch date so far. Hopefully, when the phone is unveiled, we won't need to wait until September before the phone’s available for sales.
For further information, the new flagship Snapdragon 855 Plus is the most powerful chipset today and is a gaming-centric SoC. It comes with Adreno 640 GPU with a higher clock speed for offering 15% more performance. In addition, the Kryo 485 CPU has been enhanced the clock speed from 2.84 GHz in the Snapdragon 855 up to 2.96 GHz.
