Nubia Teased New Red Magic Smartphone With 5G Connectivity & Snapdragon 865 SoC

The new Red Magic gaming-centric smartphone with 5G connectivity and Snapdragon 865 SoC might arrive as soon as early this year.

Vivo’s sub-brand iQOO announced its first 5G-enabled gaming smartphone called Vivo iQOO Pro 5G in August last year. Other OEMs are expected to release their 5G-enabled gaming-centric smartphones this year. While Xiaomi is only reportedly working on its next addition to the Black Shark gaming lineup, Nubia has already confirmed to launch its 5G-ready gaming smartphone. Now, the brand posted on its Weibo page, revealing that the next phone in the Red Magic series will support 5G connectivity.

Nubia Red Magic 5g Phone Snapdragon 865

As you can see on the poster, the upcoming Red Magic phone will come with a Snapdragon 865 SoC alongside a Snapdragon X55 5G modem for the 5G network. Therefore, this Red Magic smartphone will support both SA (Standalone) and Non-standalone (NSA) in China. Aside from that, there aren’t many details about the forthcoming Nubia 5G phone. We expect to see Android 10 come pre-loaded on this phone. To recall, the iQOO Pro 5G doesn’t support dual-mode network like this new Red Magic phone.

The name of this phone is still unknown at the moment. It could be named Red Magic 4 but Chinese phone makers have been known for skipping the number ‘4’ for their products’ name as it is considered as a bad number in their culture. Therefore, there is a high possibility that the phone will arrive under the name Red Magic 5.

Last month, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 865 SoC alongside the mid-range Snapdragon 765G SoC. After that, several phone producers including Nubia announced that they would launch a Snapdragon 865-powered smartphones this year. The brand also claimed that the Redmi Magic 5G phone with a Snapdragon 865 will arrive in early 2020.

India might be one of the first markets to welcome this new smartphone. However, since the 5G network hasn’t been available in India, the company might release a 4G LTE model of the handset.
