Nubia Red Magic 5G: Price in India, Review, Specifications

Gaming-centric smartphones are getting much more powerful and the upcoming gaming phone from ZTE’s sub-brand Nubia called Nubia Red Magic 5G is claimed to break all the records in terms of performance.

Nubia’s President Ni Fei has revealed via a screenshot on his Weibo page that the forthcoming Nubia Red Magic 5G achieved a score of 633,724 points on the benchmark test of AnTuTu, which is the highest score ever recorded on the platform.

In comparison, Xiaomi Black Shark 3 Pro 5G was recorded to achieve the highest score on AnTuTu, which was 620,925 points (now replaced by Nubia Red Magic 5G of course). Meanwhile, the iQOO 3 5G and Xiaomi Mi 10 (after receiving software update) scored 575,883 and over 600,000 points on AnTuTu, respectively.  

Coming back to Nubia’s upcoming gaming smartphone, it is benchmarked on AnTuTu with NX659J model number. Its benchmark score is 637,724 points while it earned 563,558 points on Master Lu, which is another popular Chinese benchmarking platform.

Previously, Ni Fei already confirmed that the handset would be the first 5G gaming smartphone in the world with a 144Hz display. It was also said to come with the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 865 chipset along with a Snapdragon X55 5G modem for dual-mode 5G connectivity.

According to previous leaks, the handset will likely be the first phone in the world with 16GB of RAM, possibly only available for its top-end model. We have also heard that the handset will be equipped with LPDDR5 RAM made by Samsung. As for software, it should be pre-installed with Android 10 out of the box with the brand’s Redmagic OS on top.

Other leaked specs of the Nubia Red Magic 5G include triple rear camera setup, 240Hz touch sampling rate, built-in cooling fan, 2K display, and Wi-Fi 6. It has also recently spotted on benchmarking platform Geekbench in two models - 8GB RAM and 12GB RAM. The former earned 4,308 points and 13,537 points in the single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. Meanwhile, the 12GB RAM model achieved 4,333 points in the single-core test and 13,489 points in the multi-core test.

The Nubia Red Magic 5G will begin shipping on March 19 with a starting price of CNY 3,799 (around Rs. 40,200) for the 8GB RAM + 128GB memory version. The 12GB RAM + 128GB version is priced at CNY 4,099 (around Rs. 43,400), while the 12GB RAM + 256GB version is priced at CNY 4,399 (around Rs. 46,600). You can also grab the top-end model with 16GB RAM + 256GB storage for CNY 4,999 (around Rs. 52,900).

Like other gaming smartphone models, Nubia Red Magic 5G still has a pretty aggressive design, featuring a very colorful back. In addition to the standard color versions, it also has a more advanced variant with a transparent back, allowing users to easily see the internal components of the device, as well as the fan spinning.

The Red Magic 5G is the first smartphone in the world to be equipped with a 144Hz refresh rate display It uses a 6.65-inch AMOLED panel, supporting Full-HD+ resolution (2340 x 1080 pixels) and does not follow the design trend of punch-hole or water-drop notch. However, the handset still has quite thin bezels at the top and bottom.

In addition, the screen of the device is also integrated with a fingerprint sensor underneath for security and is TUV Rheinland certified with the ability to produce less harmful blue light for the eyes than conventional AMOLED screens.

Inside, Nubia Red Magic 5G owns the hardware power from the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 865 processor and Adreno 650 GPU, combined with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and up to 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage.

Red Magic 5G is equipped with a triple-camera system on the back, including the main 64MP Sony IMX686 sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 2MP macro camera. Meanwhile, the selfie camera on the front of the device has an 8MP resolution.
