LG W30 and Samsung Galaxy M20 are both launched in the budget segment. Which phone is better than the other and worth paying for?

LG has just announced the new W series which is exclusive for the Indian market. The lineup includes LG W10, W20, and W30 and the top-end LG W30 is equipped with a triple rear camera and a beefy 4,000 mAh battery. It is set to take on the offerings from Xiaomi, Realme, and Samsung. In this article, we will compare the new LG W30, and a budget offering from Samsung dubbed Galaxy M20. Both of them fall in a similar price range, but there are significant differences between them. Let’s see what are those and which one is the better phone.

LG W30 vs Samsung Galaxy M20: Price

Let’s start with their prices. There is no difference between the two phones’ price tag. Both the Galaxy M20 and LG W30 are priced from Rs. 9,999. While the Galaxy M20 comes in two memory configurations and recently got its price reduced. Its base option with 3GB of RAM / 32GB of storage is retailed at Rs. 11,990. On the other hand, the LG W30 single variant with 3GB of RAM / 32GB of storage is available for Rs. 9,999. 

Even though both phones are offered at the same price for the base variant, the Samsung offerings come with higher amount of RAM and storage.

LG W30 vs Samsung Galaxy M20: Specifications

In the design aspect, both of them have a similar look. Up front, there is a dewdrop notch at the top, and on the rear, their camera setups are placed on the left side and stacked vertically. However, these are all of their similarities, let’s move to their major differences.

The LG offering sports a 6.26-inch display with HD+ resolution and an aspect ratio of 19:9. Powering the phone is an Helio P22 octa-core processor, coupled with 2/3GB of RAM / 32GB of internal storage. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy M20 comes with a 6.3-inch display with FHD+ resolution, which is higher than that of the LG W30. Ticking at its core is a Samsung’s Exynos 7904 octa-core processor, paired with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

LG W30 vs Samsung Galaxy M20: Cameras & Battery

The LG handset features a triple camera setup at the back, comprising of a 12MP main camera, a 13MP wide-angle shooter, and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, there is a 16MP camera for taking selfies and video chats. As for the Galaxy M20, it features a dual rear camera setup, including a 13MP primary camera and a 5MP depth sensor. For selfies, it is equipped with an 8MP selfie camera. You can easily see that the LG W30 has a better camera setup with an additional wide-angle lens on the rear and a higher-resolution front camera. 

Moving to the battery and software aspects, the LG W30 comes packed with a large 4,000 mAh battery and boots Android 9 Pie. As for the Samsung handset, it has a much larger battery with a capacity of 5,000 mAh and ships with Android 8.1 Oreo-based One UI which can be upgraded to Android 9 Pie. For biometric security, both of them have a fingerprint scanner mounted at the back. In these aspects, the Galaxy M20 should offer much longer battery life thanks to its monstrous 5,000mAh battery. However, the 4,000 mAh cell on the LG W30 should be enough to fuel the phone for the whole day.

LG W30 vs Samsung Galaxy M20: Verdict

Both of the phones have similarities and differences. If you are looking for a smartphone with high-resolution screen and large battery, the Galaxy M20 is clearly the better choice. However, if you are more of a photography enthusiast, the LG W30 with triple rear cameras should be superior over the Galaxy M20.
