LG Announced LG G8 ThinQ & G8s ThinQ With Snapdragon 855 SoC

In MWC 2019 event, LG just announced the LG G8 ThinQ and G8s ThinQ with the latest Snapdragon 855 SoC and a triple rear camera setup.

Alongside the LG V50 ThinQ 5G, LG also announced the LG G8 ThinQ as well as G8s ThinQ at the MWC 2019 event. Both of them will still be powered by a Snapdragon 855 SoC and 6GB RAM, but without 5G support.

LG G8 ThinQ

The G8 ThinQ sports a 6.1-inch OLED panel with a 1,440 x 3,120 px resolution. It is backed by a significantly larger 3,500mAh cell compared to a 3,000 mAh unit on its predecessor, LG G7.

Interestingly, LG will offer the LG G8 ThinQ in two variants, one with a dual rear camera setup and the other with a triple rear camera system. There will be a 12MP main sensor, a 12MP secondary sensor with a telephoto lens, and a 16MP ultra-wide third lens.

Moving to the LG G8s ThinQ, it sports a bigger 6.2-inch OLED with a 1,080 x 2,248 px resolution. Under the hood, it will be backed a 3,550mAh battery which is almost the same as the LG G8. Different from the LG G8, the LG G8s will only come with a single camera configuration of triple camera setup. It includes a 12MP main sensor, a 12MP secondary sensor with a telephoto lens, and a 13MP ultra-wide third sensor.

On the front, both LG G8 models will have a dual selfie camera, including an 8MP main sensor with an f/1.7 aperture and 1.22μm pixel size as well as a Time-of-Flight 3D secondary camera that is used for Hand ID, which will be able to read some characteristics of the veins in users’ palm such as thickness to unlock the handset. This feature is pretty unique, but we are not sure if it will be as reliable as a fingerprint sensor or not. Alongside the cool feature, LG also equips the two with a Facial Recognition feature that will not be easily fooled by 2D images of users’ face.

But the Hand ID is not the only interesting feature that LG packs on the LG G8 phones as it also introduces Air Motion which will allow users to control the handsets through hand gestures. For example, you can use your hands to take a screenshot, control the volume, or take phone calls by waving your hands or pinching in the air.

LG has yet revealed the exact pricing of the two phones, but they will come in Carmine Red, New Aurora Black, and New Moroccan Blue colour variants.
