The Indian telecommunications company Reliance Jio is reportedly partnering with some smartphone makers to release ‘Jio Exclusive’ smartphones for the Indian market. According to ET Telecom, the company will offer Indian users with phones from brands like Karbonn, Lava, and Vivo at lower prices as well as benefits like shopping benefits, one-time display replacements, and OTT subscriptions. However, sources cited by ET Telecom have suggested that the phone will only work with Reliance Jio SIM cards. The news hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, so you should take it with a grain of salt.
It appears that Jio and Vivo have already been partnered to make ‘Jio exclusive’ smartphones as the Chinese brand has recently released the Vivo Y1s for the Indian market along with a Jio lock-on offer, bringing users benefits worth Rs. 4,550 by recharging Rs. 249 or more. In addition, the price of the phone is tipped to be below Rs. 8,000 as the company is planning to attract current Jio phone owners. In addition, local brands like Karbonn and Lava already release budget Android devices, so lowering the price by partnering with such a large company seems like a great opportunity.
However, this isn’t the first time the Indian telco partners with a smartphone brand to release a smartphone. Previously, Reliance Jio has already worked with China’s iTel to offer budget phones in the price range of Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 4,000. In addition to Jio, Airtel is also said to be in talks with companies like Karbonn and Lava to make its own budget 4G smartphones.
