iPhone 12 Specs Announced: 5G, New Design, Triple Rear Cameras, Price Starts At ₹69,900

Apple has finally announced the iPhone 12 series at the online 'Hi, Speed' event. The lineup includes four models, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. While the mini and regular models are nearly identical to each other, the 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max share quite a lot of similarities in all regards as well. We will go into more details about their specs below.

iPhone 12: Specifications & Features

The handset comes with a Super XDR OLED panel, instead of an IPS LCD one like its predecessor. Its display still has a size of 6.1 inches but features a much higher resolution (2,532 x 1,170p resolution). Sadly, it only has a standard 60Hz refresh rate and the same notch design. What has been improved is the durability of the glass covering the screen. According to Apple, it has co-developed with Corning (Gorilla Glass maker) to make Ceramic shield, which is touted to be "tougher than any smartphone glass" and "4 times better drop performance".

As expected, powering the device is the new A14 Bionic chipset, which has six cores (4 efficient and 2 powerful cores) CPU. Apple claims that its new chipset is about 50 percent more powerful in both GPU and CPU than any other mobile chipset on the market.

In the camera department, it gets a new 12MP wide camera with a larger f/1.6 aperture and OIS as well as a 12MP ultra-wide snapper with an f/2.4 aperture. Both of them have the new Smart HDR 3 with better white balance, saturation, and texture. On the front, there is a 12MP camera for selfies and video calls. Both the front and rear cameras are capable of capturing Night Mode photos.

Sadly, Apple hasn't revealed the battery capacity of all four iPhone 12 models. For now, we only know that all four models are capable of charging up to 15W via wireless charging or 20W via wired charging.

iPhone 12 mini: Specifications & Features

This is the first time Apple launches a 'mini' iPhone. It is pretty much a slightly trimmed-down version of the iPhone 12. It's the smallest 5G smartphone in the world, even smaller than the iPhone SE 2020 with a 4.7-inch display, despite having a bigger 5.4-inch Super XDR OLED panel. Other than the display, the iPhone 12 mini has the same display technology, cameras, wireless charging, color variants, chipset, and IP68 rating as the regular version.

It will also be available for sales in three storage options, 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB. It will be up for pre-orders in India from October 23rd while the first sales will start from October 30th.

iPhone 12 Pro: Specifications & Features

The iPhone 12 Pro & 12 Pro Max are two premium models in the family. The 12 Pro features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR panel, with only 60Hz refresh rate, 2,532 x 1,170 pixels resolution, and 'Ceramic Shield' technology. It is also powered by the 5nm A14 Bionic chipset that supports the 5G network.

All four iPhone 12 models have the same flat body design like the iPhone 4 and iPad Pro 2020. It still gets a wide notch at the top to accommodate Face ID sensors and a selfie camera. Around the back, there are four sensors housed inside a square module, just like the iPhone 11 Pro. The setup includes a 12MP wide camera with an f/1.6 aperture, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle shooter with a 120-degree viewing angle, a 12MP telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom, and a TOF 3D LiDAR scanner, which helps render bokeh in the dark and speeds up autofocus.

Other than that, the 12 Pro has similar specs to the regular 12, including up to 15W wireless charging, 20W wired charging, IP68 rating, and 12MP selfie camera.

iPhone 12 Pro Max: Specifications & Features

There aren't a lot of differences between the 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. The biggest difference lies in the camera aspect as the 12 Pro Max gets better primary and tele cameras. Its main camera has a brighter f/1.6 aperture and a larger 1/1.7" sensor (with 1.7 µm pixels). As for the telephoto camera, it has 65mm focal length, allowing 2.5x magnification.

Other than that, the 12 Pro Max has a bigger 6.7-inch display with higher resolution (2,778 x 1,284 pixels).
