In this iPhone 12 Pro Max review, we would like to point out that this is the biggest phone Apple has ever made, and also the best all-around, as long as you can stomach its price.
iPhone 12 Pro Max Price And Release Date
Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max was opened for pre-orders on November 6 with a price starting at $1,099 in the US and Rs 1,29,900 in India for the 128GB variant, and $1,119 and Rs 1,39,900 for the 256GB model.
iPhone 12 Pro Max Design
Let’s start this iPhone 12 Pro Max review with the controversial design of the phone.
Its angular edge of the phone means you will feel less comfortable holding it than you do the iPhone 11 Pro Max.
The fancy outer rim looks appealing but bears in mind that it is a fingerprint magnet so prepare to spend more time polishing the phone if you intend to keep the handset looks premium and new.
iPhone 12 Pro Max is basically the larger version of the iPhone 12 but it still fits in the hand. Users can still reach the volume rockers on the right and the screen lock button on the left.
The most noticeable difference here is the protrusion of the camera setup. You will see that the module bulges outward more than that of the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro. The reason here is the larger sensor underneath to capture more light.
As mentioned earlier on this iPhone 12 Pro Max review, this is the largest phone Apple has ever made. Its dimension is 160.8mmx78.1mmx7.4mm and while it is thinner than last year’s iPhones, it feels a bit larger, courtesy of the squared edges.
The fact that Apple has dropped the charging block and earbuds from the package means that if you don’t have a compatible block and this is your first iPhone, you will have to factor in the cost of the accessory.
iPhone 12 Pro Max Display
The larger size means users will have a bigger display.
The OLED screen on last year’s iPhones remain on the iPhone 12 lineup and with a larger size, the difference is even more obvious. Apple said the screen is called Super XDR OLED display, in other words, it means a sharp, bright screen with good color production.
The display is one of the highlights we would like you to know about with this iPhone 12 Pro Max review. If you have been using older iPhones, the improvement is striking.
The thinner bezels make for a larger display, 6.7 inches compared to 6.5 inches of last year’s phones. While it’s a step forward for immersion, the brightness doesn’t seem to get any improvement – it’s still the one on the iPhone 11, except for higher contrast ratios and greater sharpness.
The Ceramic Shield on the phone is supposed to protect the screen in the event of dropping as well as reduce scratches.
While we can’t say for the former claim, the latter doesn’t check out during our time with the phone to write this iPhone 12 Pro Max review.
When the phone is off, we can see some scuffs and nicks despite us being very careful not to put the phone in the same pocket with anything hard.
iPhone 12 Pro Max Camera
Another reason to stretch your budget for an iPhone 12 Pro Max is the cameras.
The setup consists of thee 12MP shooter, one ultra-wide, one standard wide, and the other is with 2.5x telephoto zoom. Night Mode is available for both ultra-wide and standard wide.
While you may think the size is the only difference between the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max, Apple makes sure the latter is the most possible choice for those who want the best cameras.
The larger form factor allows for a bigger sensor to take in more light and produce clearer and more detailed pictures.
Apple’s computational photography is now more intelligent than ever. Deep Fusion makes a comeback this year. It analyzes the shot pixel by pixel to produce the best photos possible.
The Smart HDR 3 works to save several exposures at once and then stitches them together to yield the best results.
The Night Mode is where the phone shines and this is the third highlight we want to point out with this iPhone 12 Pro Max review. The mode can keep the camera at work for 30 seconds straight as long as it is on a tripod and the scene is very dark.
The selfie camera now has background blur to make selfies look more professional. However, stray hair is still a problem.
iPhone 12 Pro Max Performance
iPhone 12 Pro Max specs are the most impressive among the iPhones so you can expect the phone to smash all benchmarks regarding gaming and multitasking.
The kind of apps running on iPhones now is demanding more power from it than ever. And Apple has made sure the hardware can keep up. From gaming to media editing, the phone can handle everything you throw at it.
iPhone 12 Pro Max Battery
The battery life on the 12 Pro Max is quite similar to that of the iPhone 11 Pro Max.
We tried to use the phone for heavy tasks one day for this iPhone 12 Pro Max review and after hours of Spotify, web browsing, and 4K HDR YouTube content, it wasn’t until 7:30 P.M that we had to reach for the charger.
If you shell out the extra money for Apple’s 20W charger, you will have an impressive charging time. It takes the phone 30 minutes to go from 0% to 48%.
And while you get better battery life with some other iPhone models, the iPhone 12 Pro Max still gets the longest time between charges compared to other 2020’s iPhones.
If you are considering iPhone 12 Pro Max vs iPhone 12 Pro, think about what you want most, if you wish to have the best cameras on an iOS device and the most immersive screen, the Pro Max is definitely the best choice.
