With the launch of the new iPhone series, Apple fans around the world are spending a considerable amount of money to get their hands on the new smartphones.
Of course, the prices of these phones are way higher than their real cost as Apple wants to make a major chunk of profit out of the offerings. And now, a new report further confirms this.
Fomalhaut Techno Solutions has recently published a new report revealing an iPhone’s actual cost. The report calculates the iPhone 12 Pro’s bill of materials and rounds it off to around only $406 or nearly Rs 30,000. While a US consumer has to pay $999 for the device, an Indian consumer needs to pay Rs 1,19,900 in order to purchase the phone.
In the new Apple iPhone’s teardown, the company finds out that the most expensive is the Qualcomm X50 5G modem to provide 5G connectivity. The modem with a price of $90 is just a tad more expensive than the OLED displays made by Samsung which is $70 each.
Other components include Apple’s A14 Bionic chipset which costs $40, the $12.8 RAM module, the $19.2 flash memory, and the Sony cameras which cost around $7.4 to $7.9.
Those are the costliest parts of the new iPhones. Other components have much lower prices. With all this combined, the iPhone 12’s BoM is $373 (Rs 27,500). Meanwhile, the price of the new iPhone 12 in India is Rs 79,900.
The report also mentions the markets where these components come from. 26.8% of the iPhone 12 parts are from South Korea, 21.9% are from the US while 13.6% are from Japan. Surprisingly, only 4.6% are from China.
This is probably because of Apple’s decision to equip all four of its iPhone models with Samsung OLED displays.
