On Friday, Huawei CEO Richard Yu said in a briefing that the company may start selling its foldable phone Huawei Mate X in October. The CEO said that he initially hoped the phone could have gone on sale already, but they needed more time due to the rollout of 5G as well as to adapt the apps to the new display size.

Huawei may release the Mate X next month

According to an August report, the Mate X wouldn’t come out until November; however, if Yu’s words are true, the phone can be available next month. Yu said at IFA 2019:

He added that the foldable phone may even pack the new Kirin 990 processor, which is possible considering that the chip is already on sale.

Huawei first unveiled the Mate X at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona back in February, as the main rival of the Samsung Galaxy Fold. After the Korean giant ran into problems with the Fold’s screen, it said at IFA that the device will go on sale in South Korea starting Friday, followed by other countries starting September 18.

While the Fold folds inwards with its foldable screen on the inside, like a book, the Mate X folds outwards. This means you only need to unfold the devices when you want to use it as a tablet, instead of having to unfold every time you use the phone.
