According to statistics from Huawei, over 200 million units of the company's smartphone were shipped in 2018. This figure also shows that the firm has got over their previous turnover and set a new record for smartphone's launch-year sales.
According to the company's statement, this achievement marks the success of its P20 and Honor 10 phones, among other handsets in 2018. The company also added that the sales figures keep creeping up since 2010. Specifically, the company smartphone shipments stayed at 3 million units in 2010 and reached 153 million units shipped in 2017.
According to data from researcher Canalys, the Chinese telecommunications company has also taken the second spot as the world's biggest smartphone vendor by beating Apple in the second quarter of this year.
While gaining success in smartphone markets, the company still faces quite a few challenges. In particular, Huawei devices was accused of being a spy for the China government by the US intelligence officials. Buyers are also advised not to buy the company's products for this reason. This issue has posed a great challenge to the Chinese giant, especially when AT&T and Verizon decided not to distribute its Mate 10 Pro.
However, the problem seems to affect only the US market. In other markets like Europe and China, Huawei devices are still commonly used.
At a launch event on 17th December, Huawei also revealed that they have already sold over 65 million devices in the mid-range Nova series alone.

Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business also set out its goals for the coming year. Specifically, the company targeted for reaching a number of 250 million units shipped in 2019 and 300 million units shipped in 2020.
The company has also risen the 2018 shipment forecast to 200 million units, compared with the previous forecast of 180 million units. Becoming the world's biggest phone vendor is the company's biggest goal in 2019, said Huawei.
