Honor has been known for making attractively affordable smartphones. But lately, the Chinese company is pursuing the flagship segment with as well. The latest release from the Huawei’s sub-brand is packed with some of the latest design and feature like the punch-hole display and also a 48MP camera on the rear.
Can the Honor View 20 be a true successor to the Honor View 10?
Launched with the name of Honor V20 in the Chinese market and Honor View 20 in other markets, the handset is truly a successor to Honor View 10 launched in March this year. Read our comparison between these two for more details about why we would say so.
Honor View 20 vs. Honor View 10: Design and Display
Both of the Honor flagships come with a metal unibody, but the Honor View 20 has a much better look and feel compared to those of the Honor View 10. Honor opts for a 300 nanometer, multi-layer super-micro pattern — which has a V-shape flowing through it that will only be visible when the light catches it. And that is way cooler than the old design of the View 10’s back panel. The two phones also have a difference in the construction department as well. While the Honor View 20 has a glass-sandwich design, its predecessor features a metal body.

Moving to the camera setup, both of them have a dual camera system on the rear, but the rear cameras on the View 20 don’t stick out that much like they are on the View 10 and they also look much more flush with the panel. There is a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor on both of them, and they also have the same USB-C port, a speaker grille and a headphone jack on the bottom.

For the display on the View 20, Honor opts for new display design. In order to get rid of the notch, the phone maker goes for a hole on the top left corner on the front to accommodate the front-facing camera. The Honor View 20 has a 6.4-inch FHD+ AllView display with a 1,080 x 2310 pixels resolution and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. Despite having a small bottom chin, the device still has an impressive 91.82 percent screen-to-body ratio.
Meanwhile, the View 10 comes with a smaller display with 5.99 inches in size, 2,160 x 1,080 pixels, 78.6 percent screen-to-body ratio and an aspect ratio of 18:9.
Honor View 20 vs. Honor View 10: Specs and software
The Honor View comes packed with the latest Kirin 980 processor, coupled with 6GB or 8GB RAM and 128GB or 256GB of unexpandable storage. In comparison, the View 10 is powered by the Kirin 970 processor along with 6GB RAM/128GB of expandable storage up to 256GB.
The Honor View 20 runs the MagicUI 2.0.1 which is based on the latest Android 9 Pie out of the box. Besides the standard features, the phone also has Link Turbo Tech which allows it to switch between Wi-Fi and data by itself. It also as GPU Turbo 2.0 for better gaming performance and AI-based GPS technology with dual-band tech for better accuracy. In contrast, its predecessor, the Honor View 10 the first Honor Ai-based phone and had advanced features like AI-accelerated translator, Smart Tips and 3D Facial recognition technology.
Honor View 20 vs. Honor View 10: Camera and Battery
As mentioned, Honor goes for a new display design which is similar to the Infinity-O display design of Samsung. There is a hole on the top left corner of the Honor View 20 to accommodate a 25MP front camera for taking selfies with an aperture of f/2.0 and a fixed focus. But the front is not the only thing with an impressive upgrade as the phone also has a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor with an aperture of f/1.8 and a second 3D ToF (Time of Flight) depth sensor. It also has some regular features such as AI HRD, portrait mode, night scene, 960 frames per second slow-motion video recording.
In contrast, the Honor View 10 sports 16MP RGB main sensor and a 20MP secondary monochrome sensor on the rear and a 13MP front-facing camera with an aperture of f/2.0.
In the battery aspect, the Honor View 20 comes packed with a 4,000 mAh battery while its predecessor is packed with a slightly smaller 3,750mAh battery.
Honor View 20 vs. Honor View 10: Price
The Honor View 10 was initially priced at Rs. 29,999 while it was priced slightly more expensive in other markets such as European market at 499 EURO (around Rs. 39,000) and 499 GPB (approx. Rs. 40,000). It initially came in two variants with 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of storage. Honor offered another option with 8GB of RAM/128GB of storage in the Chinese market.
On the other hand, the Honor View 20 is set to officially launch on 22 January, and it will be up for sale in the Indian market exclusively via Amazon. However, the pricing and availability of the handset have not yet revealed.
In China, the Honor View 20 aka Honor V20 is priced CNY 2,999 (approx. Rs. 30,400) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model and goes up to CNY 3,499 (approx. Rs. 35,500) for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage option. Honor will also offer a special edition, Moschino Edition, with with 8GB RAM + 256GB storage at CNY 3,999 (approx. Rs. 40,600).

While the Honor View 10 comes in Midnight Black and Navy Blue colour variants, Honor offers the View 20 in three colors option, including Red, Blue and Black, and also a special model called Moschino Edition.
Honor View 20 vs. Honor View 10: Final thoughts
It is clear that the Honor View 20 is a significant upgrade over the Honor View 10 in most of the aspect, apart from the unexpandable storage perhaps? What makes the phone even more compelling is that it is priced starting from 2,999 CNY (around Rs. 30,500). The Honor View 20 will be released in the Chinese market, and it will be exclusively on Amazon.cn. If this device comes at a similar price tag in the Indian market, Honor might have a solid start in 2019.
