Google Pixel 5 & Pixel 5 XL Might Not Have Flagship Chipset As Expected

The upcoming Google Pixel 5 and Google Pixel 5 XL might come with the top-of-the-line chipset as we all expect on a Google's flagship.

Except for mid-range Pixel "a" models, every time Google launches a new Pixel phone, it will surely be powered by Qualcomm's best available chipset. However, there are some signs that things might not be the same with the Google Pixel 5.

Specifically, when studying the unreleased codes of the Google Camera app, it has been discovered that the Google pixel 5 and Google Pixel 5 XL will highly likely be codenamed Redfin and Bramble.

If you are familiar with it, then Redfin and Bramble are the devices that the leaked information previously said would be equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 765G processor: this is a chipset that has great performance, but certainly not comparable to the high-end Snapdragon 865 chip.

At the moment, all of the above information is only a speculation and appears in the form of rumors, but Google might try to release the Pixel 5 as an affordable flagship phone.

Of course, we're no stranger to Google's mid-range Pixel phones. The company is planning to launch Pixel 4a in May, and this model will use a mid-range processor, probably Snapdragon 730.

If that is the case, the Pixel 4a and Pixel 5 will have very good performance, and the big differences between them can be in the camera setup as well as other integrated features.

It's still too early to know how the Pixel 5 will be configured, as well as explaining exactly why Google chose to use a non-flagship chipset for their flagship models though there might be one obvious reason for this choice and that is cutting cost. However, you should take this news with a grain of salt as it is still quite early to make any assumptions about Google's next flagship series.
