Google Pixel 3a was the first attempt from Google to offer users the experience of its Pixel product line at a more affordable price. With that, users will only have to pay nearly half the price of the Pixel 3 to try Google’s vision for Android. This year, Google seems to be doing even a better job with the Pixel 4a and manages to mix the best aspects of the Pixel and Nexus series into one smartphone. With a great display, solid build quality, flagship-grade cameras, and pure Android experience, the Google Pixel 4a might be the best mid-range phone in 2020. Sadly, the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 have already been confirmed to not come to India.
But how does the Pixel 4a fare against its competitors like iPhone SE 2020 or the OnePlus Nord? We will help you to find out via the below comparisons.
Google Pixel 4a vs OnePlus Nord vs iPhone SE 2020
Google Pixel 4a vs OnePlus Nord
1. Pixel 4a vs OnePlus Nord: Price
The Google Pixel 4a price in India is still unknown at the moment, but we expect it to be around Rs. 30,000 due to the GST rate increase. The device is priced around Rs. 26,000 in the US for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model. The Google Pixel 4a launch date in India is in October, which is around two months from now.
Meanwhile, the OnePlus Nord price in India is Rs. 24,999 for the entry-level option with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, but you have to be quick as this option will only up for sales in September. If you want more power and storage, the phone also comes in two more memory configurations, including 8GB RAM + 128GB storage and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage. They are respectively priced at Rs. 27,999 and Rs. 29,999 and already available for sales since August 6th.
2. Pixel 4a vs OnePlus Nord: Specifications
Moving to the specs aspect, the Google Pixel 4a features a 5.8-inch OLED panel, which is relatively small for smartphones in 2020. The display supports FHD+ resolution, HDR+, and 60Hz refresh rate. Powering the phone is a Snapdragon 730G SoC, coupled with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The device packs a 3,140 mAh battery, supporting 18W fast charging technology and boost Android 10 at launch. Moreover, you won’t have to worry about software updates as the device, just like other Pixel smartphones, will have support for at least three years.
The Google Pixel 4a only has a single 12MP camera at the back, which is not something too strange for Pixel smartphones. With only one camera, the Pixel 4a is certainly not as versatile as other smartphones with three or four cameras. However, with Google’s software and feature, you will still have flagship-grade photos on both day-light and low-light environments. On the front, you will get an 8MP camera for picturing selfies and video calls.
The OnePlus Nord, on the other hand, sports a 6.44-inch Fluid AMOLED panel, which is larger than that of the Pixel 4a. Not just that, the display also supports 90Hz refresh rate in comparison to the 60Hz refresh rate of its Google counterpart. The device is driven by a Snapdragon 765G chipset, aided by up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The phone is pre-loaded with Android 10-based OxygenOS and houses a beefier 4,115 mAh battery with support for 30T fast charging solution.
In terms of cameras, the OnePlus Nord has a total of six cameras on front and back panels, four up from just two cameras of the Pixel 4a. The rear camera setup includes a 48MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with a 119-degree viewing angle, a 2MP macro shooter, and a 5MP portrait camera. On the front, there are a 32MP primary camera and an 8MP wide-angle shooter with a 108-degree viewing angle. You can clearly see that the OnePlus Nord’s cameras are much more versatile, but whether they are as good as those of the Pixel 4a, it is up for debate.
Google Pixel 4a vs iPhone SE (2020)
1. Pixel 4a vs iPhone SE (2020): Price
The Pixel 4a is priced at around Rs. 26,000, and we expect to see the Pixel 4a price in India stay higher than that price point due to the current GST rate. According to Google, the handset will arrive in India in October.
The iPhone SE 2020 price in India is Rs. 42,500 for the 64GB storage option while the 128GB and 256GB models are retailed at Rs. 46,800 and Rs. 53,300, respectively.
You can clearly see that the iPhone SE 2020 is much more expensive than Google's new mid-range smartphone, but it is better? Let’s compare their specs.
2. Pixel 4a vs iPhone SE (2020): Specifications
Google's new phone features a 5.8-inch OLED screen with Full-HD+ resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. It is equipped with a mid-range Snapdragon 730G chipset, aided by 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. In terms of camera, there are only a single 12MP camera on the rear with OIS and an 8MP camera on the front for picturing selfies and video calling. Camera features of this phone include dual exposure controls, Portrait Mode, Super Res Zoom, Night Sight with astrophotography, and Live HRD+. The device is packed with a 3,140 mAh battery with 18W fast charging support via a USB-C port and pre-installed with stock Android 10.
Moving to the iPhone SE 2020 specs, the device features a 4.7-inch Retina display with HD resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. Powering the phone is Apple’s A13 Bionic chipset, which is also used on the flagship iPhone 11 series. For photography, it is equipped with a 12MP camera at the back with OIS, dual-pixel PDAF, and dual-LED flash. For selfies, it gets a 7MP shooter on the front. The handset runs on the latest iOS 13 and packs a 1,821 mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging technology. However, Apple only includes a 5W charger in the box, so you need to pay for a compatible charger and a Lightning to Type C cable if you want to fast charge the phone.
Overall, the Pixel 4a has a larger display and a beefier battery as well. In the performance department, the iPhone SE (2020) should be far ahead of the Pixel 4a since it gets the flagship A13 chipset, which is comparable to Qualcomm’s flagship chipset, Snapdragon 855. Therefore, if you want to get a powerful smartphone, the iPhone SE (2020) is a better choice. The Pixel 4a is a great option if you need a solid all-around phone.
Verdict:
Overall, if you see the Google Pixel 4a specs and skip the phone because of that, you might make a big mistake. The handset might not be packed with six cameras or a big display like the OnePlus Nord or powerful chipset like the iPhone SE 2020, it is still a wonderful all-around phone with Google’s clean software as well as advanced camera software and feature.
