Google is scheduled to unveil its new Pixel phones dubbed Pixel 4/Pixel 4XL sometime by the end of this year. It is known that its Pixel 3/Pixel 3XL arrived in last October, so the company is expected to organize an event around October to introduce its new Pixel devices. Ahead of the release, the brand has teased the phone’s design on the front and back, which confirms big top bezel and two rear main cameras. Additionally, several real-time images of the Pixel 4/4XL and the screen protectors have surfaced online. And here are rumours around the upcoming Pixel phones.
Pixel 4 & Pixel 4XL: Design
In terms of design, the Pixel 4 will have a similar top bezel as its predecessor. However, the bottom bezel will be a bit slimmer. Meanwhile, the 4XL is tipped to get rid of the notch for thick top bezel while the chin remains the same as the 4. On the back, the duo will come with two main cameras put in a square module. Additionally, they will have a single-tone rear finish, unlike the dual-tone one found on their predecessors. Some renders from CAD suggested that the phones will feature volume and power buttons on their right side like other previous Pixel devices.
Notably, as per the official image of the 4 Google teased, the handset will not have a rear-aligned fingerprint scanner. Instead, it could feature an under-display fingerprint sensor as today’s trend. But, as the company confirmed the new Pixel phones will feature 3D sensors for face unlocking feature, it is likely that the upcoming Pixel handsets could get rid of fingerprint scanner. In addition, the phones will come with a Soli radar chip, offering hand gestures and face unlocking. The chip is expected to allow users to do a lot of things such as silence calls, snooze alarms, skipping songs, to name a few, just by waving the hand in a certain direction.
Pixel 4 & Pixel 4XL: Display
Should the reports come true, the Pixel 4/4XL will flaunt the same screen size as the predecessors. While the former will sport a Full HD+ screen with a size of between 5.6 inches and 5.8 inches, the latter allegedly flaunts a QHD+ display with a size of between 6.2 inches and 6.4 inches. The duo reportedly has 90Hz screen refresh rate. This will bring the new Pixel devices in the same range as the rival OnePlus 7 Pro with a similar refresh rate. Furthermore, while the 4 is tipped to measure 147x68.9x8.2 mm, the 4XL probably measures 160.4x75.2x8.2 mm.
Pixel 4 & Pixel 4XL Performance
The upcoming duo reportedly comes with the latest flagship SoC from Qualcomm – Snapdragon 855 Plus. This is considered a great upgrade over the Snapdragon 845 SoC found in the predecessors. Several brands have introduced their own devices packed with this chipset. The new SoC is clocked at 2.96 GHz, which is higher than the clock speed of 2.84 GHz of the regular Snapdragon 855. The Snapdragon 855 Plus offers 4% performance increment and 15% increase in graphics processing power.
It is worth noting that Google is likely to feature the regular Snapdragon 855 chipset for its new Pixels instead of the Plus model. In terms of storage configuration, the upcoming duo will be packed with 6GB RAM, higher than the 4GB RAM found on their predecessors. So far, the storage of the devices has remained unknown. However, it is expected that one of the duo will have 128GB internal storage.
Pixel 4 & Pixel 4XL: Cameras
In terms of imaging capabilities, the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL are confirmed to have dual rear camera setup. While the details of the sensors have been unknown, the phones are expected to have a telephoto sensor. According to some leaks, this sensor will be a 16MP shooter. Notably, it is expected to have a third lens onboard which is an upgraded version of “Spectral + flicker sensor”. The new lens will be a bit smaller than the predecessor. It is tipped to help the phone’s camera module handle strobing lights as well as offer better quality in recording LCD screen. Additionally, the handsets are sure to have a single front-facing camera.
Pixel 4 & Pixel 4XL: Other specifications
The upcoming duo will run the latest Android 10 at launch. The new software is expected to offer various new features such as focus mode, improved sharing menu, smart replay for messaging apps, and Dark Mode, to name a few. Other specs include A-GPS with GLONASS, USB-C port, Bluetooth v5.0, 4G LTE, and dual-band Wifi. Regarding the battery, the upcoming phones reportedly come with larger batteries than other previous devices.
