Samsung has recently launched a new addition to its new Galaxy M series, called Galaxy M40 in India. This new mid-range offering will take on the likes of the Redmi Note 7 Pro, Realme 3 Pro, and others in the price range. The brand has already brought a few budget handsets in the market as an attempt to get back the market share from Chinese phone makers like Oppo, Realme, Xiaomi, and Honor. Will the Galaxy M40 be a great device for Samsung to do so, or it will fail under the fierce competition from other phones in the market.
Galaxy M40 vs Redmi Note 7 Pro: Price
The Galaxy M40 variant with 6GB RAM / 128GB storage is retailed at Rs. 19,990. It comes in Midnight Blue and Seawater Blue color variants.
Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 7 Pro has a more competitive price. Its base option with 4GB of RAM / 64GB storage is retailed at Rs. 13,999. You can purchase the high model with 6GB RAM / 128GB storage for Rs. 16,999. It is available in Space Black, Neptune Blue, and Nebula Red.
It seems like the Redmi offering has a lower price compared to the Samsung device
Galaxy M40 vs Redmi Note 7 Pro: Specifications
The two phones have some similarities and differences between each other in terms of specifications. Let’s start with the similarities first. They are both driven by the mid-range Snapdragon 675 octa-core processor, which means there won’t be a massive difference between the two in the performance aspect. They also pack up to 6GB RAM / 128GB storage which is expandable using a microSD card slot.
On the front, the Samsung Galaxy M40 is packed with a 6.3-inch FHD+ LCD panel with a punch hole on top, whereas the Redmi Note 7 Pro features a 6.3-inch Full-HD+ LCD display with a water-drop notch. On the rear, both of them come with a gradient finish and a fingerprint reader.
Galaxy M40 vs Redmi Note 7 Pro: Cameras & Battery
On the rear, the Galaxy M40 sports a triple camera setup, whereas the Redmi Note 7 Pro has a dual camera system. Their setups are both stacked vertically. There are a 32MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 5MP depth unit on the Galaxy M40. The dual camera setup of the Redmi Note 7 includes a 48MP Sony IMX 586 sensor and a 5MP depth sensor. On the front, there is a 13MP selfie camera on the Redmi Note 7 Pro while it is a 16MP shooter on the Samsung offering.
We can’t really comment on which phone will offer better camera quality, but the Galaxy M40 should have the edge with an extra ultra-wide camera. Moving to the battery aspect, the Samsung device is equipped with a 3,500 mAh battery, while Xiaomi goes for a beefy 4,000 mAh cell on the Note 7 Pro. it is highly likely that the Redmi Note 7 Pro will offer a longer battery compared to its rival. Both of the phones support fast charging solution, so you won’t have to worry about them taking too long to charge. Software-wise, they both ship with Android 9 Pie with their respective custom UIs on top.
Galaxy M40 vs Redmi Note 7 Pro: Verdict
Both the Samsung Galaxy M40 and Redmi Note 7 Pro are not ahead of their rivals in terms of displays or processors. While the Galaxy M40 has an additional ultra-wide camera on its rear and has a higher-resolution camera, the difference is not too significant. On the Redmi Note 7 side, it has a larger 4,000 mAh battery compared to the 3,500 mAh cell on the M40. So specs-wise, it is hard to say which phone is better. However, it is clear that the Redmi phone has a more competitive price in comparison with its Samsung rival.
