Xiaomi announced its Redmi Go which is the first phone from the brand to be a part of Google’s Android Go programme. Now, Samsung just launched an Android Go phone to take on the Redmi Go in India dubbed Galaxy A2 Core with better specs than the Samsung Galaxy J2 core - the first handset from the company in the Android Go program. Here is the detailed comparison between the two phones to help you make the decision.
Galaxy A2 Core vs. Redmi Go: Display & Design
As both of the phones are launched in the budget segment with a very competitive price, you shouldn't expect any fancy design from either of them. To cut down the cost, both the Redmi Go and Galaxy A2 Core come with a plastic body. While the Galaxy phone seems to feature a glossy finish, Xiaomi goes for a matte finish at the back on its Redmi Go.
Up front, both of the devices sport a 5.-inch LCD panel with a 16:9 aspect ratio. However, while the display on the Galaxy phone has a qHD (540 x 960p) resolution, the one on the Redmi Go has a better HD (720 x 1,280p) resolution. The Redmi Go clearly wins in terms of display.

While the Redmi Go is slightly better when it comes to display, Samsung equips the A2 Core with a better set of specifications. Powering the Samsung offering is the company’s octa-core Exynos 7870 processor built on the 14nm process. Meanwhile, the Redmi Go is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor built on the 28nm process. It is easy to say that the Exynos 7870 SoC is clearly better than the Snapdragon 425 processor in not only performance but also in the battery efficiency.
Both of them pack 1GB of RAM/8GB of storage which is expandable via a microSD slot. Xiaomi only limits users to expand storage up to 128GB while users can increase the storage of the Galaxy A2 Core up to 256GB. Keeping the Galaxy A2 Core and Redmi Go running are 2,600mAh and 3,000mAh cells, respectively. As for software, the Galaxy A2 wins in this aspect with a more recent Go Edition of Android 9 Pie whereas the Redmi Go only runs the dated Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition). Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slot, Bluetooth, 4G LTE, and Wi-Fi.
However, the Redmi Go has a huge advantage over the Galaxy A2 Core, and it is that the Redmi Go has support for over 20 Indian languages along with Google Assistant Hindi and Hinglish. With this, the Redmi Go can access to more types of user compared to the Samsung Android Go phone.
Galaxy A2 Core vs. Redmi Go: Cameras
The two phones have a similar camera setup. The Galaxy A2 Core sports a single 8MP rear shooter with an aperture of f/2.2 with autofocus support. The Redmi Go also has a single 8MP rear snapper with an aperture of f/2.0. Up front, both of them come with a 5MP selfie snapper with an aperture of f/2.2.

In the pricing aspect, the Redmi Go’s price is set much better with an Rs. 4,499 price tag while the Galaxy A2 Core is slightly more expensive with an Rs. 5,290 price tag.
So by paying an extra of around Rs. 800 for the Galaxy A2 Core, you can expand more storage via a microSD card slot, a better chipset, and a more up-to-date operating system. However, the Redmi Go is better in terms of display & battery. Moreover, the Redmi offering also has support for over 20 Indian languages along with Google Assistant Hindi and Hinglish.
