Today we will look at the capacity of OnePlus 7 Pro and Huawei P30 when it comes to photography

Today we will look at the ability of OnePlus 7 Pro and Huawei P30 when it comes to photography. Both of them have a triple camera setup consisting of a standard, an ultra-wide, and another one for taking pictures from a long distance. Here is the result:

Specs Comparison

OnePlus 7 Pro has a triple snapper arrangement with a 48MP, a 16MP ultra-wide camera, and an 8MP with a telephoto lens capable of 3x optical zoom. Huawei P30’s cameras include a 40MP main sensor, and the rest is similar to that of OnePlus 7 Pro.

The most noticeable difference here is the main sensor

The most noticeable difference here is the main sensor. On paper, that of OnePlus phone is slightly better, but in reality, you will not notice much of an improvement here. It is the scene optimization that is responsible for most of what we see in the results.

'Normal' Photos

If you pay attention to the beige of the building and the silver car, you will see that they are a bit pale. The bike images are lighter than in photos taken by OnePlus phone, making the whole thing seems to be more dynamic.

The background of this photo is defined and crisp. It was taken from the shade, so it looks darker, but you can still see most of the details.

So with no filter and 1x zoom, there is not much of a difference between photos taken with the OnePlus 7 Pro and Huawei P30.

The one from OnePlus smartphone is a bit dark, but they are similar in many other aspects, including quality, color range, depth, and field of view.

Zoomed Photos

The colors are brighter than the ones taken by OnePlus phone.

You can see more details in this picture.

Huawei P30 can zoom in 30x, but when you do, the pictures are far from beautiful.

The pictures are far from beautiful

At 3x zoom, the colors in Huawei P30’s picture are more vibrant and has good contrast. However, complexity and details are nowhere to be found.

Ultra-Wide Mode

The color in this shot is paler than those of picture from Huawei P30. The field of view is the same on both phones.

The sky looks brighter in this picture, and you also have more blue. The colors seem to be more vivid in the photo taken by OnePlus 7 Pro.

The ultra-wide photo taken by Huawei P30 is shockingly brilliant.

OnePlus 7 Pro’s photo is paler, but instead, you have more details.

Macro Photos

The rocks in the background are not blurred much. You can see clearly the different tones.

The rocks in the background are not blurred much

The depth is quite noticeable in this photo taken by OnePlus phone, and the background rocks are blurred to an acceptable level too.

The depth is quite noticeable

If you compare the two pictures, they actually look quite similar. The contrast among color tones are not so hard to make out, and the blurred background is appropriate.

The speed at which Huawei P30 takes a picture is slower than with OnePlus 7 Pro.

Night Sight

On the left wall, the details are easy to see, but that is not true to the right wall. You can also distinguish the water from the gondola too.

The details on the left wall pop and you can see the stains on the right. Through the right window, the shapes and textures are easy to see.

Huawei P30 features RYYB sensor while most other smartphones, including the OnePlus 7 Pro, have RGB. The former can collect 40% of light, meaning we have better colors. The example here is pictures with low light. They have more details and are a lot brighter.

There are fewer details to be seen on photos taken by OnePlus 7 Pro, but the color contrast looks really artistic.

Color Perception

In this picture, the scene optimization left out the background entirely. Colors are bright, and the texture of strawberry and grape are easy to make out.

In this picture captured by OnePlus 7 Pro, the scene optimization left out the background entirely

In the photo taken by Huawei P30, the fruits look a little darker. This may have been the fault of the scene optimization as did not recognize the objects. If it “knew” that it should have boosted the colors, we would have a more vivid picture.

Huawei praised the P30 for its ability to grasp colors, but in reality, the phone does not deliver what it is supposed to.

OnePlus 7 Pro knew how to make the fruits pop, so its photo looks brighter and lighter.

Capturing Greenery

As you can see, the shine on the leaves looks white in the picture taken by OnePlus 7 Pro and yellow in the image captured by Huawei P30.

The shines on the leaves looks white in the picture

The Huawei P30 has RYYB sensor onboard; that is why we can see the yellow sheen in the image taken by the phone. While the overall look of the photo is unnatural, it shows you more colors, making the picture look vibrant.

So in short, Huawei P30’s image has more yellow tones, as a result of the use of RYYB sensor. You will have a more vibrant and exciting photo with this phone, but what it captures does not look like what it is in real life.

OnePlus 7 Pro makes up for that flaw on Huawei’s phone. The photo seems dull and boring, but it shows you how the bush appears in reality.

Verdict

This camera test is not for choosing an absolute winner. It only points out what Huawei P30 and OnePlus 7 Pro do best and what they are not so good at. So if you read this to pick out what camera phone you should buy, our best recommendation is to decide on what you want.

OnePlus 7 Pro can yield realistic-looking pictures, which can be boring sometimes. The objects might be pale in comparison with Huawei P30.

Huawei P30 can give you vibrant and bright pictures, but if you are after details, stay away from it, as the cameras can ignore some of them in favor of beautiful colors.
