ASUS might call its next-gen gaming smartphone ROG Phone 5 instead of ROG Phone 4 like many people expect.

Although the ROG Phone 3 has only been released for half a year, we have already quite a few pieces of information about the next-gen ROG Phone 4. Most recently, details about the specifications and live images of the ROG Phone 4 have surfaced online, giving us the first glimpse of this ASUS gaming smartphone.

Specifically, according to MySmartPrice, the ROG Phone 4 will have a pretty similar design to its predecessor. There appears to be a special red button at the bottom left side of the phone. The display of the ROG Phone 4 is said to have thinner bezels at the top and bottom edges. You can see the design of its entire back panel on the photo below.

The handset still has a horizontally-stacked triple rear camera setup like its predecessors.

From the picture above, we can see the back of the device engraved on the number "05", indicating that ASUS could call the phone ROG Phone 5 instead of 4. Since in China and many other Asian countries, the number “4" is considered an unlucky number, so many manufacturers have decided to skip the 4th generation. Of course, this is still just speculation, so take it with a grain of salt.

Aside from the leaked photo, we also have a listing of the phone on the 3C database with model number ASUS_I005DA. If it is indeed the upcoming ROG Phone, the handset will support 65W fast charging technology. In addition, the same device was previously spotted on Geekbench with a Snapdragon 888 SoC, 8GB of RAM, and Android 11.

The ROG Phone 4's alleged 3C listing.

At the moment, there is no information about the ROG Phone 4 launch date, but rumor has it that the handset will launch much earlier than its predecessor, which was released in July last year.
