The iPhone 12 lineup is finally here and we have seen all four models unveiled during the virtual October 13 event. Most rumors prior to the announcements turned out correct. Two models will come out this month while the others will launch next month.
This time, choosing a model to buy is harder than ever as there are up to four options at the same time, featuring many “firsts” for Apple. Now, let’s look at the best features of the iPhone 12 lineup.
1. The iPhone 12 Mini
For the first time ever, Apple has made a compact iPhone with an all-screen design, featuring Face ID and a notch. Measuring 5.4 inches, the screen on the iPhone 12 Mini is smaller than that of the iPhone 11, iPhone X, and iPhone XS, but it could become a popular choice for a certain part of consumers. The iPhone 12 Mini comes at an affordable price, making it a great alternative to a mid-range Android phone that isn’t as powerful.
2. A new OLED tech
All the iPhone 12 models come with an OLED Super Retina XDR panel. This has a direct impact on the screen-to-body ratio and results in thinner bezels. In addition, the panel is protected with more durable glass, including a Corning Ceramic Shield layer.
3. The flat-edge design
There’s still a notch but the design has been made over as well. Featuring curved corners and flat edges, this design is very similar to the iPhone 3 and the newest iPad Pros. It provides more room for internal components and likely solves the durability problem.
4. 5G connectivity
All the iPhone 12 models have a 5G antenna and 5G modem, which will support mmWave and sub-6GHz technology.
5. The A14 Bionic processor
The new iPhones are powered by the new 5nm A14 Bionic processor that works faster and more efficiently than the A13 Bionic chip. This processor also powered the iPad Air 2020.
6. Wireless charging
The wireless charging ability first appeared on the iPhone X. But this time, the iPhone 12 features magnetic MagSafe charging along with support for up to 15W charging speed.
7. Cameras
The new iPhone lineup has got several major upgrades in terms of cameras. All the lenses now support Night Mode and each of them has a sensor-shift optical image stabilization system.
There’s also the Apple ProRAW mode that’s great for photographers. Furthermore, this is the first time an iPhone has had support for Dolby Vision HDR video capturing as well as on-device editing. The phone also records 10-bit HDR videos.
8. LiDAR Scanner
Among the four models, only the Pro and Pro Max get this feature. The same tech is used on the iPad Pro, which allows the device to map an environment’s depth and produce AR content with that spatial information. For the feature to really stand out, it requires great AR features. LiDAR will also enhance autofocus features for low-light shots.
9. More storage
The Pro variants offer more base storage than lower-end ones. The 128 base capacity is great for the use of 5G.
10. Affordable prices
Apple is expanding its iPhone price range to lower segments to approach more consumers, by offering a high-end 5G handset at an affordable price. This puts the iPhone in direct competition with the Samsung Galaxy S20 and Google Pixel 5.
The iPhone 12 Mini is priced at $699 and the iPhone 12 is priced at $799, these models are better deals than the Google Pixel 5, Galaxy S20, and the OnePlus 8. The iPhone 12 is anticipated to sell as well as the iPhone XR and the iPhone 11. Apple has also reduced the prices of the iPhone XR and iPhone 11 to $499 and $599, while the iPhone 11 Pro has been discontinued.
