YouTube is on the process of purging spam accounts. And the company is informing its content creators that they may notice a “noticeable decrease”in their number of subscribers.
On the platform’s product forum, an official post said that these cleanups belong to the company’s regular maintainance routine. By deleting spam accounts, YouTube aims to maintain its platform as a “a fair playing field” for its content creators.
The reason behind this is that some YouTubers can increase their subscriber count artificially by exploiting spam accounts. It is still open to question as to the number of affected channels. However, by giving out warning, YouTube wants its users to be ready for a subscriber drop.
In its blog post, the platform writes that:
According to the blog post, owners of channels usually use spam accounts to make their channels seem to be more well-known. Popular channels like T-Series as well as PewDiePie may also see a decline, which will undoubtedly affect the unending competition between these two channels. However smaller creators might be the ones that are affected the most as they could possibly lose their ability to earn money from their videos.
In its blog post, the company continues:
The clean up is currently in progress. Affected channels’ owners will notice that there is a banner in Classic Creator Studio or YouTube Studio.
