If you feel that the free 5GB storage provided in iCloud is too little or if you want to try out another photo storage app, you will be glad to know that Apple has launched a new service expected to help users transfer pictures and videos more easily from iCloud to Google Photos.
If you have accounts on both these platforms with proper login credentials, you can use this service easily. You just need to visit this page, sign in using your Apple ID, click on “Transfer a copy of your data,” and follow the steps.

It’s worth noting that the service will send a copy of your pictures and videos to Google, meaning their original files are still stored in iCloud. Nevertheless, as Google does not support the same range of file formats as Apple, things like Smart Albums, Live Photos, and some RAW files may not be displayed correctly or available in Google Photos.

Besides, if your storage space on Google Photos runs out during a transfer, you will have to buy more storage and start the transfer over. If you want to make any change, addition, or deletion, you must do before starting the transfer. Also, Apple only allows for transferring the most recent edit of a photo and does not transfer photos that belong to a shared album.
According to a MacRumors report as well as details on Apple’s support pages, though, the new service is currently available for users in Canada, the US, Iceland, Australia, New Zealand, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Norway, the EU, and the UK. We hope this service will soon be rolled out to the rest of the world.
