Xiaomi announced that over the last five years, it has shipped over 100 million smartphones in the Indian market, the most important market for the company. The Chinese phone maker cited figures from IDC research firm.
The company has been the biggest smartphone vendor in India for eight consecutive quarters, with the Redmi Note and Redmi as its best-selling phone lineups in the country.
India is the second-largest and the fastest-growing smartphone market in the world, where most handsets cost less than Rs 14,330. But Xiaomi is well aware of this fact and adapted to the market, saying that it never makes over 5 percent profit from any of its hardware products.
Xiaomi VP and India business MD Manu Jain stated that the firm’s milestone:
100 million sales units just in India is an important mark for Xiaomi, considering that in 2018, it shipped 100 million devices worldwide within 10 months (including India).

In August, Xiaomi said that it was on the way to set up 10,000 offline stores around India by year-end when it expects the offline market to account for 50 percent of its sales. The company says that it has created over 20,000 jobs for people in India, most of which are occupied by women.
Xiaomi executives even said that the company has a dedicated team based in the country to look for investment opportunities in Indian startups. Jain said:
