WhatsApp Now Has 2 Billion Users Worldwide

WhatsApp has crossed the 2 billion mark of users on its platform, according to the company’s announcement in a Wednesday blog post.

The blog post said that the firm is well aware that the more people it connects, the more it has to protect. And since most of the activities happen online, it’s crucial to protect conversations for users.

First released in January 2009, WhatsApp is a free, cross-platform VoIP and messaging service that allows users to exchange voice and text messages, make voice calls as well as video calls, share documents, images, locations, etc. Most people use the service on their phones but it’s also accessible on computers via the web version. However, that requires the user to keep the phone connected to the Internet so that their chats can be synced between the devices.

In 2014, Facebook acquired WhatsApp for about $ 19.3 billion. Then in 2018, the firm rolled out a separate business version of the app dedicated to small business owners, dubbed WhatsApp Business. The business versions create a space for communication between companies and customers that use the client version of the app.

WhatsApp is now one of the most widely used messaging platform on Earth and the most popular in India. As of July 2019, the service already had 400 million Indian users, which has significantly increased by now considering how fast the service is growing. People like this app because it’s simple to use and doesn’t require a high-end phone, in the past, you could even use it on a feature phone like the Nokia E71. Besides, the company also pays close attention to bugs, flaws, and works continuously to fix them as fast as possible.

Facebook was released in 2004, the social network is now 15 years old. The world-leading social network is estimated to have about 2.7 billion users now, but WhatsApp may soon pass that milestone considering it took the messaging platform only 11 years less to achieve the 2 billion mark.
